How do I take a screen shot of my desktop so others can see it?

Sure...as long as you're not so judgemental about aspects of skinning and their proggies that you're clearly a novice with.

Sure...a Space Shuttle may be complex and intricate and technically 'mysterious', but that doesn't make it a crappy aircraft in relation to the paper plane you just folded....

With understanding and familiarity will come the 'wow' factor.

If not, show your individuality by painting your monitor ....oooh...beige...

You make it sound easy so how do I get started? I have adobe photoshop 7 and bryce 5. Just create a wallpaper? Is that a good start?

Yes...or have a look at some of the 'simpler' skinnable proggies and see if you can put together some graphics for them...or pull apart an existing WinAMP 2x skin and see what makes it work by altering bits and observing the result...these are the sort of things that 'new' skinners start with.
It's called 'experimentation'...

Are you nuts? Start with winamp?!?!?!? Winamp 2 skins are like wading aorund in 2,048,483,753,95,783,349,578,395 bits of a jigsaw puzzle and expecting to know how it works!!! My advice: don't start with winamp.

I've only written a couple of WA skins. It wasn't *that* bad once I jumped into it, but I agree...don't start with Winamp...start with quicknotes or sysmetrix or something like that....just to get the feel.

WinAMP 2x is an ideal way to get an insight into what skinning is....a few text configs and a number of images that go together to create a skin.
By reverse-engineering an existing skin....actually looking at the images and taking note of what they do and how they contribute to the result is exactly what is needed to learn.
Obviously, using skin-maker proggies is NOT the way to go....
