Need help with XP!

Tuesday, March 11, 2003 by hispeed | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I am trying to turn off the function that pops up information whenever my mouse hovers over anything in XP. I cannot find anything in Tweak UI, Windowblinds, or Icon Packager. I have the latest releases of all of them by the way. does anyone have a fix for this?? It is really getting anoying. I know where my Icons take me and what the START button does!!?! >

You may want to download a trial version of Tweak-XP, which allows you a multitude of controls within easy reach...

I have Tewak-UI for XP PRO and there is no such control. Is this the same program you are talking about? I visited TweakXP.com and it seemed to be just a site with tweaking tips, none of which fixed my delima.

Pick u a copy of Tweakui for XP from here - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Once you have installed it, open the app and highlight the 'Taskbar' option. In the right hand pane, you will see 'enable balloon tips'. Remove the check mark, click on 'apply' and you should be set.

That is, if I am thinking of the same pop ups as you all are.

Stark23x, where is that setting? Not in Tweak UI or User Config.

Could it be something with Window Blinds or my skins? There is no fix for it in those settings either. Even tried settings with Win classic bars. No go.

1. Start the registry editor (e.g., run -> regedit.exe).
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ExplorerAdvanced.
3. From the Edit menu, select New - String value.
4. Enter a name of EnableBalloonTips, and press Enter.
5. Double-click the new value, set it to 0, and click OK.
6. Close the registry editor.
7. Reboot

OK, let me see if I got this: You have the software Tweak-XP Pro, you clicked on tricks and tweaks, then windows tweaks, then desktop tweaks and deactivated balloon and quickinfo, and you're still getting them?

Clarification, I am running Win XP PRO and have Tweak UI (New Version) installed. The remove balloon tips doesn't work. I am heading out to try Phydeaux_3's suggestion.

Phydeaux_3, that fix was a no-go. Best try yet though. Anyone else care to gove it a try?

I got it fixed! Well most of it anyway. Just had to let you know where it was. It was located in control panel/folder options/view/show popup description. It fixed about 85% of the darn things anyway. Thanks to all for your input and help. Tranquility has returned......

  Disable Balloons

Annoyed by those silly balloons that keep popping up?
Right-Click on Start and select Properties

On the Start Menu tab click Customize

Select the Advanced tab

Uncheck the box labeled Highlight Newly Installed Programs

Click OK.

Note: To change it back set the Value data: to 2

might want to look into Tweaki..for power users by jermar. Bought a couple of years ago and except for Stardock, best software buy I ever made. Will override anything in Bill Gates domain.
