How do you handle put-downs on your work?

So, I upload my second CursorXP cursor…and Mr. ‘Poohead’ (I deemed him that he-he) whom shall remain anonymous (
) is following me around (okay, it FEELS that way he-he) and putting down my new stuff I’m making like he’s god’s gift to animaton. It seems to me…some people truly have no conscience or concept or appreciation of ANYTHING. This guy is looking for perfection? Good luck! ! I see PLENTY of faults with my new stuff…I’m new at this…I’m trying my best and that’s all I can do until I polish my skills up.
Uh…and on a personal note…I made a typo on my Shaman Cursor comments and wrote Starcock rather than Stardock when I was just waking up. I will NOT live this down now!
Sowwy, Frogboy…here I was…exclaiming the greatness of CursorXP and I fumble!

Anyway, I know everyone’s work gets bashed on this site and why should I be any different, right? Right! It just sucks when people try to filibuster you with bad voojoo for no apparent reason other than just being a sore-sport!

Just have to say my piece. As artists we beg for people to comment and to give constructive criticism. If everyone just says 'Ooh. It's fantastic.' and don't constructively criticise we'll never grow. Tombala has done just this. He doesn't just say 'this sucks' and walk away, first he says he likes it and then he states politely and descriptively what he sees as something that gets in the way of him using the cursors all the time and as a general improvement and you turn around and throw it in his face. This is just not right. He obviously likes the cursors or he would have just deleted them and carried on. I think he genuinely wants to help you improve.

Not because you don't have talent, because you DO, but because you can't handle public exposure. If you're going to start crying every time a user gives you a positive criticism, then this is clearly not something you should be doing. You will just hurt yourself.

If and when anyone gets a comment they consider to be objectionable...all the need do is contact an admin...if deemed inappropriate, not only will the comment be deleted, but perhaps also the commenter.
Simple as that.
The only issue to be aware of is that those 'long-time' members of the community may have a different interpretation as to what is or isn't 'appropriate'....so what you may perceive as horrid may not be deleted as imagined.
Earlier, there was some vague reference to 'paid admins'....clearly for some argumentative point or bias....but...none of the admins is paid...which, [pun intended] puts 'paid' to that...
[not bad for a guy whose been on a racetrack for the last 10 hours...and is comfortably numb after a pub dinner and a beer or ten]...
Simple as that.

Shmoopy*, I have a little tip for you. Always, always make your cursors for yourself. At least then you have a cursor you will use. Tips in the comments can really make a difference because you keep things in mind when you do your next. I wish more people would comment. One thing I do is use the cursor I am making the whole time I am working on it. Then if there is any jumping are flaws you will notice them. I also use then for a couple of days after they are done to give it a really good look over. If it bugs you to use it then it also might bug others. The only thing I have a little different are the holiday ones. They are meant for that, just fun but I even made sure I sized those down after a couple of comments and I like my stuff better even for myself.
None of this is related to your second cursor. I have not had a chance to look at it yet. I am going to though and I am sure I will be pleased.

I don't care that much about publicly posted comments.
a) they are public, i.e. you don't have to have any qualifications to leave them beyond a valid email address.
They are public, i.e. they are a form of grandstanding wherein someone can take the traffic headed to your work and do a little show for them, like people who clean your windshield at at traffic light.
I have really, really good luck with comments most times. The paper I have here has a string of thoughtful comments from some great people. Other sites, though, popularity outweighs artistry 1,000,000 to 1. When people have a little number signifying how many comments they have made, the number sometimes becomes far more important to them than the comments themselves.
As for serious, 'heads-up' quality input, I really appreciate the emails I get. Because they aren't public, the sender has no motive besides giving me their opinion and suggestions. When you get a "that is really nice" or "that sucks" email you have to sit back and listen. I have received a few dozen over the years and they have all been very satisfying.
Don't sweat public feedback. People who leave unfair comments are just hanging a sign around their own necks, not yours.

Yes, I agree, you have to learn to ignore nasty comments, and if they really bother you, you can ask an admin to remove it. That's if they really are nasty.
I'm afraid that in this particular case, the comment was not nasty at all. The person who left the comment even said that it was a nice cursor. He very nicely gave you a suggestion as to what could be improved. Nothing wrong with that.

yikes! way too much reading here but Angela just "try" I repeat "tryyyy" not to let what other ppl say upset you so much. not easy sometimes I know...
Most the time ppl are trying to just express themselves their own way and it gets taken the wrong way (specially for us girls around a certain time of the month?) hehe
But try cuz otherwise you'll just end up not up'ing your work in the end but that is your decision right?

I have to totally agree with paxx, I read the comments; there is absolutely nothing wrong with the "offending" comment. It was polite, constructive, and overall favorable of your cursors. Your response to his comments in the comments forum looked like you getting up on a soapbox for no real reason.
