On one of my little treks around the web today, I came across this site by simply entering my nick into Google. I've certainly never heard of the site, so I haven't given my permission for them to offer my work for download. There's a lot of stuff on the site created by WinCust folks, so I thought others might be interested. Does anyone speak Polish (?) here?? Looks like we need Jafo on the case again...

one more quick thought...

you realize it wasn't so many years ago these people had to stand in line for hours on end in all kinds of weather for something as simple as food or toilet paper, each item they purchased, each book they read, everything they spoke in public could put them in prison, or worse, vanish...

That is not an excuse, but more of the direction my thoughts and reasoning are coming from, and exactly where my analogy to children and wonderment comes from...

I know they are a more progressive nation now and more so every year, the man across the street from me is a priest that was part of the solidarity movement who escaped after one of his friends ended up vanished and found decomposed a few months later... maybe thats playing into my thoughts also, dunno...
anyway, lurking mode kicking in... and fade to black *poof*

lPlural...over the years I have had dealings with many sites and people who have done the 'wrong thing' with other peoples' works....all had 'excuses', none of them 'valid'.
It doesn't matter wher a person is from, or what inspires him to host a site, his ultimate responsibility is to honour the proprietorship of the work he hosts...if and when he is confronted with questions regarding the legality of what he is displaying he is obliged to act accordingly. Clearly work such as treetog's icons, uploaded by some other person is in clear violation of author's copyright. Once notified, he MUST remove it/them.
We do the exact same thing here...and chase up and respond to other cases on our 'related' sites...most recent for me was on Deskmod, for example...

Oh, and in reply to IPlural's comments, the history of a nation does not defend the actions of an individual. We know nothing about the individual concerned, and so we can only take them on face value based on their actions.

Of course, they may very well have taken these files out of ignorance and childish wonder, but that doesn't change what they've done. Sure, we should educate them if they have a geniune interest in customisation, but turning a blind eye to immoral actions isn't an education.

oh I agree, my thoughts of intent and action mostly are based upon the assumption of a second change being given if they comply freely and do, do the honorable thing.

I can not *stand* a thief and a person lacking in *honor* is useless and frankly a waste of valuable air and space in my opinion. I assuredly do not want them around me or do I care for them to be around those I find I care about in any manner.

that is one of the quandaries my wife faces with me and being in public and such, I am very liberal up to a point and beyond that point things become very black and white and I will not give a person who steps over that line a second positive thought. It doesn't even have to be a big thing in most peoples opinions, frankly it can be something as simple as someone being rude enough too a child, woman, elderly person or even an animal...

Also, no matter what takes places, I would not think any less of anyone in either direction, it is their work or part of a community in which they are a part of, and no one, least of all myself belongs playing at sitting in judgment of anyone for any reason even if it really doesn't matter to anyone else, it does to me, it diminishes me in my mind and I am not about to do that..

and in no manner did I mean to imply an attempt at brow beating, or ladeling guilt, indesision, or anything else upon anyone, just laying out possibilities
and maybe marks of different paths to consider.

I m a screwy one who believes in the Myth of Mythology and the positive, negative resulting karma based upon which side you align yourself upon

go figure huh?

ok, mum's the word and I've about made myself look wanker enough for one day sooooooo *zippppppppppp* mMMMmmM MM Mm

boils down to, you've got to have personal honor and have it mean something to you, for it to mean something to others, and if you don't your not worth the time of day, basically...

but at the sametime, knowing this about myself, I have to allow the benifit of the doubt, or on a personal level I feel I am even less than the one I turn my back upon...

just my pov...

grayhaze, I'm one of those odd ducks that will give a person his last dollar as long as my wife or children haven't a need for it at the moment and do without when I find someone in need.

But I also can be one of the coldest jerks alive at the same time depending on a given situation, total emotional shut down and no remorse...

Neat trick my childhood taught me...

anyway...
