I need WB4 help

Friday, February 21, 2003 by retiredmaster | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Ok - I confess. I use a text editor to do all my skins, not SkinStudio. There I said it.

Now the question. How the heck do I see the new WB4 dialog backgrounds? Do I have to have something switched on in Windows or in WB?

On a similar subject, is there a list of what the new ShellStyle options are? (In a reference document rather than in SkinStudio.) If there isn't, can some kind person email me any details? My first WB4 aware skin is just about finished apart from the background images.

(Doing these skins is just taking longer and longer... stop adding stuff!!)

When I made my first WB4 skin I copied a 'shellstyle.xps' file from another WB4 skin. You could start there.

Well I have the shellstyle.xps file set up and everything, and the logoff/shutdown stuff is all ready.

The problem is, I can't see explorer background images even for other skins which have WB4 (Colony, Sammy). Am I just looking at the wrong screens on XP?

Please, please, nice MR Stardock man, can you update the UIS reference docs? (I'm sure it'll only take five minutes...)

essorant, I sent a 'cut and paste' of every attribute from one of my WB4 skins that pertain to the new WB4 features.

On the other WB4 skins you mentioned above there should be a section called 'XP Shell', with sub-sections entitled 'Background', 'Background Windows', 'Logoff Dialogue', and 'Shutdown Dialogue'

I'm starting to think I don't quite understand what you are looking for. Hopefully, someone with a higher technical proficiency in WB4 will step up and help you out.

Thanks for that motion. I'm sure that should help me out.

Tim, are you trying to see folder backgrounds, like Large My Pictures, Large My Music, etc.? I can't figure it out either. On some skins they work, like PixOS, and on others they don't, like all of my skins. There are only a couple of lines each in the .xps file, so it's not like there's some complex configuration. My images appear to be the same size and color depth as the ones in skins where they work. I'm still trying to figure this one out.

If you're trying to view the large Control Panel or No Modify images, those are easier. To see the Control panel image, open control panel and click on "Switch to Category view". To see the No Modify image, go to your C:\ folder and click on "Hide the contents of this drive".

That's all I know.

Well done Mike - that's the answer I was looking for. In that case I'll post the skin without the folder backgrounds once I've finished off the Control Panel stuff.

Koasati - I agree.

(Whew - thought it was just me. Hmm... maybe there's a magic word?)

Thanks Mike.
