SkinStudio Help

Saturday, February 21, 2015 by boofus | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Any experts on here that would maybe help me update a 10+ year old skin (with animated title bar) so that it will work with the current version??

I've started playing with it, but besides the anim not animating, when the skin is in use no explorer windows (folders) will open.  Strange??

Thanks

Hi,

if it isn`t possible to solve that bug: save the bitmaps on skinstudio  and build a new one.

But thats only the way hoe to do it, if there isn`t a better option.

I wonder if it's even POSSIBLE to animate caption and/or window borders with the newest W Blinds/Skin Studio.

Most animations I've seen are concerned with the windows start menu.

Look in the WindowBlinds folder, do you have "anim.dll" in there? If you don't, then the animations won't work at all. I'm not sure if animations work at all in the latest WB, but you do need that dll for it to work. Good luck!!

Not sure that anim.dll is still included in the default WB install.  I PM'd Neil a while back about it but haven't yet had a reply.  I have it (left over from prior installs, I guess) and animated window control buttons work as intended here.  I don't have any skins with animated start menu graphics so can't say for sure, but would assume they'd work, too, with anim.dll present.

There must be minor variations in W7 versions, Tom - I'm on 7Pro.  FWIW.

Now that's weird.... I am on Windows 7 Ultimate, but that should not make any difference I would think. Oh well, leave it up to Microsoft!

Is there a better place to post about my original issue where I might get some help??

I need a real SkinStuio expert, I'd suspect.   Anyone??

I believe your main problem boofus is the age of the skin you are trying to update. I myself have tried importing an older XP skin using SkinStudio 8 (SKS8), but it gets totally screwed up in many areas because SKS8 has had the parts for Windows XP and Windows Vista removed from it, it is for Window 7, 8 and 8.1.  I believe if you can install SkinStudio 7 (SKS7) and import the skin into it, you will have much better results. Then after you bring the skin up to Windows 7 standards in SKS7, you can install SKS8 and work on the skin even more, even bring it up to Windows 8 if you want.

If you need SkinStudio 7, please PM me with your email address and I will send it to you.

Most appreciated, Lightstar.

I think I do have SS7;  I seem to remember it showing up in the current Object Desktop Manager
