they (ms) did do better for windows 1.0 back in 1985, but the current offering is another BAD joke like widow HATE.

Those icons are truly ugly. Flat style? More like 'flat on its face' style.

Hmmm, can't see wot all the fuss is about, TBH.  Win 10 is free for users of 7 and 8... and if it's free, then the icons appearance become irrelevant... I mean, yer can't bitch about free, can yer!

It should be common knowledge that MS doesn't have a clue when it comes to the UI or aesthetics, so shouldn't this have been expected?

Besides, we WCers were always gonna replace the <insert expletive of choice here> regardless, so wots the diff?

So yeah, thank goodness for 'an updated' IconPackager in time for Win 10... hint, hint.

So y'all finally starting to agree with me lol

Edit.

Gonna try to put together a complete set for my next release, it's just SO much work !

-If I do, it will go separate.

IMO, everything about the whole modern/flat look is hideous. It reminds me of the interface of a child's play computer I saw back in the late nineties.

I guess they've decided to cut back on graphic artist costs.

If Win 10 allows skinning, I would buy a product that completely changes everything about the gui.

Hint and wink, SD....

Sorry, but I have to disagree!  Nobody was thinking when those icons fell out of a Fisher Price box and landed on the GUI persons desk.

It was a case of: "Shit!  I can take the rest of the day off now."  And he/she went home without as much as another thought.

Cos really, had anybody at MS been thinking about those icons in any way, shape or form, they'd deserve a severe slap around the jowles with a wet kipper.

I dubbed the Windows 8 metro interface as the Fisher Price OS.  While they are returning to the older, more professional UI they obviously sitill like the kiddie icons.

I think I know where MS got the inspiration for it's icons.

No-one could be found who would pay for an OS with those icons...

Can someone shed some light to the clueless about why windows 10 is "free" to users of 7, and 8? Especially for 7? I must have missed a memo somewhere.

Yea, those icons are certified as FLAT. I guess style is out the proverbial window. I could understand if they are doing this for performance reasons, but most modern hardware could easily handle the VISTA icons. So what is it with this "euro look"?

Major Stress

Can someone shed some light to the clueless about why windows 10 is "free" to users of 7, and 8? Especially for 7? I must have missed a memo somewhere.

MS announced a few days ago that users of Win 7, 8/8.1 and Windows Phone 8/8.1 would be able to upgrade to Win 10 for free within the 1st year of release.

Of course, it wasn't going to be that way to begin with... then somebody in 'Icons' at MS tipped out some Fisher Price toys on their desk and thought: "Oh goody, I can take the rest of the day off." well it became too late to change them, and thus it was decided Win 10 could NOT be sold [even to imbeciles] with such butt ugly icons.

It makes no difference to me.  I like Win 8 but the icons are crap.  I like Win 7 but the icons are crap.  I liked Vista, too, but the icons were crap... and I won't even mention XP, other than MS seems to be going the Fisher Price route again with Win 10.  Anyway, I'll still get Win 10 - all 4 copies cos I have 4 legit OSes that can be upgraded - because of the changes/improvements under the hood.  The GUI/icons are irrelevant... I have Stardock and Winstep toys to fix those.
