What operating system do you use?

Wednesday, December 18, 2002 by JamMeister33 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I am curious to find out what OS most people on this site are using.
I use Windows XP myself and would like to determine what the highest percentage of users prefer...

Well...XP Pro, with Win 3.11, Win 95, Win 98, Win 98 s/e, and QNX all loadable as Virtual Machines, a second disk caddy of Win XP Pro [as backup]...and a self-contained zip drive OS of Win 3.11 accessed by boot disk.

All 3.11s use Calmira as shell, not exploder...and all 9x and beyond use LiteSTEP as shell [varying vers]......QNX is bog-standard...

I current'y switched to RedHat 8...so far I really like it, easy to install and the best part, it's FREE !! however, you do need a high end machine to run it in the GUI mode, of course...it comes with the basic everyday software, Office stuff, Acrobat reader, etc...I think I'll stick with this for a while...
my other PC is XP......ehh

I have a XP box and a ME box. The XP box is what I use 90% of the time. The ME box is for some games and for testing skins on that older OS.

Jafo, it's been awhile since I've ran 3.11. As far as I remember I can't think of it crashing and if it did, it was easy to fix. Am I remembering correctly?

I use win 98se.well me tired of that os only matter of time before i upgrade my comp speed(i hope). M$ added inproved the GUI and updated some stuff and than added some other stuff to xp bascally its important to choose an OS for which it can suit your needs. All Opp. Systems do the same thing
right but it all about features and userbility of the OS

Went to XP Pro so could use WindowBlinds3 features and been running it day before the launch.

Originally had Windows 2000 Professional but always loved Pro version because of stability etc as thats what businesses look for

Yes, WOM... 3.11 didn't cause many problems, but when it did it was real easy to fix...

I *was* running Me on my 'puter up until two months ago...I thought it was a pretty good OS, but seemed to crash a lot during the last six months or so. > So I caved, and bought XP Home...I wiped the drive and did a clean install, wow, what a difference! I had some headaches with the upgrade, but that is all water under the bridge, and I'm happy now!

XP was the easiest install I've ever done, ME was always a nightmare, never once did it install without a slew of problems. I had reached a sort of understanding with ME and could usually install it without TOO much hassle, but XP is like a dream in comparison...
