What operating system do you use?

Wednesday, December 18, 2002 by JamMeister33 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I am curious to find out what OS most people on this site are using.
I use Windows XP myself and would like to determine what the highest percentage of users prefer...

I JUST got XP a few weeks ago on my new PC. I had a few adjustments to make learning it, but I like it very much so far!

That poll was done about 2 months ago. XP had over 50%. I have XP and ME. Had XP and XP till the drive crashed and the disk was scratched.

Is there a good reason why you use XP pro, my friend?
I use Home Edition and don't see the need for the pro version...
Just curious....?

XP Pro trimmed back and Mandrake Linux 9.
Jam,I prefer XP Pro for the few extra business type extras .... and I removed the Home Video and that sort of garbage.
It does have (IMHO!) a little better security built in as well.

Win2000Pro currently. Had Me, but it proved so reliably unreliable it had to go. Is XP-Pro worth the extra $100?

XP home and pro are built on Win NT and 2000 with a pepperdash of the 9x series for comfort and backwards compatibility so gamers can game and the lamers can lame *joking*

From what I've heard win 2000Pro is still the best as far as security. With XP home I'm constantly updating my security and my friend has the "pro" version and has to update the same stuff. I say, if you're happy with 2000 than stay with it but if you constantly have to reboot because of bad memory handling then XP is the way to go. Just MHO...

If it ain't broke though...don't fix it.

Disk 2: With two partition one is Mandrake the other is Licoris Linux.

The challenge for me was I could not for the life of me get XP Pro to boot from LILO. It would start then go blue screen... I had to use the XP command console and re-write the MBR. Then XP would boot. So now I am using Boot Magic to manage all the BR's. Everything works so I am happy!

Disk 1: Windows XP Home
Disk 2: Dual-boot between Windows 98 and SuSE Linux

Using Nicklock http://www.nicklock.com/ to between the two disks.

I always go for the bells and whistles, so I like XP better than any other flavor of Win...
