Windows 10 Preview Thoughts
Thursday, October 9, 2014 by kona0197 | Discussion: Personal Computing
Yeah, I know we have a thread for Windows 10. I just wanted to start my own thread instead of hijacking the other thread.
So historically everyone knows I badmouth a new version of Windows before it comes out, than later down the road I praise that version of Windows like the best thing since sliced bread.
Not this time...
Joined the Windows Insider program, downloaded and burned the Windows 10 Preview to a USB stick using Rufus, plugged in a spare hard drive, and installed Windows 10.
And was blown away!!
This system is freaky fast, even on my old hardware and a hard drive running on an old IDE cable setup. It handles memory very, very well. Way better than 7. It detected my printer and network card without installing the drivers from my CD. For some reason Firefox 32 and iTunes 11 run really fast and take up half the memory they usually do on 7. The live tiles are amazing, and I like the fact they are integrated into the traditional start menu.
I'm tempted to make this my long term default operating system, if for nothing else just testing purposes. I was wondering if the Windows Insider people will get a free copy for the boys at Microsoft. Probably not, but I can hope.
I'm addicted. Hey Starkers, you need to try this...

ty Hankers i did that a while ago...
But as you can see i raise my digital voice since it still does behave the same way as it did.
Im not here to say that the product is broken, it works after the right click still it could be better.
As we all know i like Stardock products if i wouldn’t do i would not have extended my subscription.
I just can’t go and tell folks how great this app is and then show them the system start.
And tell them at this point you will have to make a right click or wait a little longer to use your icons.
As cool as the fences is, this will break their Interest.
While i know that discussing fences isnt part of this very topic yet it was mentioned and the cause should be obviously the OS,
i simply cant agree with that so i think it just a normal discussion that ended up wrong.
However im willing to stick to the actual topic WIN10TP and thoughts about it.

To OP - do you have some benchmarks to support your impressions?
There are many tricks to give the impression of speed, like Superfetch.

You clearly miss the point even though you refer to it. The 'faking' is the 'completed' desktop showing BEFORE all services are loaded to actually have it FUNCTION.
WHAT YOU SEE WITH THE WAIT FOR FENCES TO DISPLAY THE ICONS IS THE TIMING OF THE TRUE END OF THE BOOT PROCESS.
I already told you win7 and win8 do not behave different, as soon as you see the desktop both still load services.
THEY BOTH DO THE SAME THING or would you say WIN7 has completed everything when you see the desktop?
SO what you are trying to tell me is that win8 and windows7 both fake an early ready system?
Well Yes they do!
"The boot sequence is the same, whatever the drive it's on."
yeah sure, still this drive will only take 1 second to load up everything that is installed on this drive.
Only the USB is still working after that. And that is part fault of the OS be it 7 or 8.
Too many people [or at least one here] cannot differentiate between an OS shell-integrated add-on and a free-standing executable such as Photoshop [your example].
Correct im to dumb for that, i think most of us would look like we are, if you select only one app that was mentioned from the list provided but naming Flight Simulator Ten yourself.
I suggested that you try BOOTRACER, don’t know if you have done that.
Maybe you don’t want to.
Let me explain how it works
Bootracer will log the time after the splash screen is done initializing hardware. It will then start the timer and log how long it takes to load windows, once you reach the password screen it stops the timer, after entering the password if you have one it will continue the desktop timer and will then stop once everything is loaded. once it is done nothing is loading anymore
This means that I have might understood that windows is still loading services once I see the desktop but as I said there is nothing more to load on that drive after 1-2 seconds.
If Bootracer is done-. EVERYTHING even my externals are up and loaded - still Fences will require a right click to show up.
WHAT YOU SEE WITH THE WAIT FOR FENCES TO DISPLAY THE ICONS IS THE TIMING OF THE TRUE END OF THE BOOT PROCESS.
Strange why is BOOTRACER then finished and i still can’t see no fence ? Yeah bc it will now require the famous right click
My question is IF THIS ISNT an ISSUE with FENCES and it would only affect me why are there more posts about this issue?
MHH something isn’t working as it should be, while everything is loaded, still folks need to make a right click to make use of their invisible icons because the program is unable of doing what it should actually do, display icons and sort them.
Even if you have a external drive hooked. WITHOUT being forced to right click.
You wrote this yourself above
If the OS is still loading services NEEDED by the app the app will not run.
AND THERE EXACTLY THERE IS THE PROBLEM IAM TALKING ABOUT!
WHY CANT IT DISPLAY WHAT IS ALREADY LOADED?
+ EVEN AFTER EVERYTHING IS LOADED it will require a right click. EVEN TOUGH BOOTRACER IS FINISHED! ALL Programs are open yet Fences requires a rightclick before that it will not display.
1. Without Fences Bootracer finishes and all my ICONS are displayed.
2. Without Fences and bootracer still running i can already click on programs that i want to use even on shortcuts to progs that placed on the external.
PS: Did I saysay it slows my boot time? i just say it makes me wait and do extra work to have use of it.
Also i know how long it takes to put on socks and shoes im also aware that the system will require some extra time to load fences since its an additional program.
Yet it is installed on the master drive and only needs additional info from my external.
I could explain it this way
Don´t know if you have trouser holders, but you can attach those to your pants before you actually wear a shirt and can simply flip them over once the shirt is on.
Yet one can use them without the shirt.
Why can’t fences do the same?
