I have no problem paying for a Master skin - current price or even twice the price.   I appreciate the hard work it takes to make a quality skin and I have zero problem paying a person for hard work.  

I haven't bought a Master skin in a long time.  Not one skin I purchased is on my hard drive anymore, some never get past the first hour.  I'm fussy.  I know it.  I just wish there was a way to take a 5 or 10 minute run with a skin before purchasing it.  The screen shots don't always offer an accurate perspective on menus, highlighting, transparency, etc.   I'd happily pay more for a skin that I know I am going to keep and use without a lot of modfiying.   Paying for something that gets quickly deleted and not used isn't satisfying.  

Hope that doesn't take this topic off on a tangent.  Like others above, I am certianily not looking to argue.  I'm happy to find a way for the Master skinners to be better compensated for their work, but as a customer I want to feel satisfied with the value too.

I don't think he was trolling.... he made an observation of numbers of masterskins..... and a suggestion for a different approach to sales... of which we have all discussed with various outlooks... just a healthy discussion.. 

Goodness folks.  Relax.

When I put up my first master skin I put it a bit low at $3.95 just to see if that can get me more sales as a startup. But now looking back at it... there is not much different selling at $3.95 of $4.95. In-fact my second one which selling at 4.95 are selling more than my first one. 

That shows there is no guaranteed correlation between price and demand in this one.

I think this discussion is healthy. The customer need to understand that we as a master skinner don't get much in return from the skin we sell here.  And my free skin get downloaded a lot for example my Glassmax14 get download 6300x... if I get 50% of that number to buy my master skin I can sell my skin at $1.00 any time. And looking at my Glassmaxx Cursor which downloaded 190330x. If I can sell my cursors at $0.50 I can quit my day job and do cursors full time. Heck maybe buy a new house with that money.  

My master skin only sell 10-20x and that for the first 2 week after it released.. than it will trickle slowly.....my Oren WB released in March 2014 only totaling at 103 as of today...

Its apparent some of you have no idea how much thought, effort, time, work, stress, sleeplessness, numb hands and arms, skill, learning, coffee, and oh.. did i mention time.... goes into a well thought out and manufactured skin.

or.. that a LOT of these app makers copy paste code from their own, or others apps, mod it s little, and sell it, over and over and over.

If you feel that my, or others work is not worth it.... then..

Option 1. Whine about it.

Option 2. Make your own skins.

Option 3. Use the free skins, there are THOUSANDS of them

Option 4. Whine about it some more.

Option 6. Come and trade me some of your personal time and labor at 20% of what you think you are worth, I need a fence painted, lawm mowed, laundry done, catbox emptied (and cleaned) I would be happy to reciprocate some of your gratitude and thriftiness.

Final Answer. LEAVE... Please...just go somewhere else.. back button, google other skin sites...don't look back

On a personal note Im sick of hearing people whining about having to pay too much for something that should actually sell for more than it does.

I did forget to mention the galleries are full of MS right now as I am updating all my skins to Win 8..... Gee, you would think people might appreciate that.

Seriously though...I've been here 8 years and I have yet to see a single WB Master or otherwise that I haven't drooled over. I've seen the amount of work that goes into these skins and believe me, just looking at the psd's I've been graciously given to make stuff for that takes not only time but a lot of effort to get it just right. Some examples...HAL 2030...Dark Dreams...Metropolis...Andromeda...need I go on. That's more than just skill. That's dedication. All those who complain that its too expensive or shouldn't be sold have no clue! Also I'd like to see them match even one of them. Guaranteed they can't do it. My two cents.

John asked me to proof read his post...and all I can say is that when I got to "Option 5"....well let's just say I'll be going to therapy for awhile...I had no idea someone could swear like that. I don't think even crayola has colors to match that colorful language.

i'm not sure about that. all these years there was a consensus that the real numbers should be kept secret. Frogboy was claiming that there are skinners that can make a living from payskins, and there still (although less than before) is some hype about "master skins".

if customers are aware that a product is unpopular, they are usually less inclined to buy.

it was kinda obvious after the desktopgadgets.com fiasco that payskins don't sell well, but i didn't expect the numbers to be that low. 

maybe Stardock could "sponsor" the development of a skin every now and then to support skinners and to get more free quality content to the library. let's be honest, nobody really likes in-app-purchases.

I think I paid $50 for FSX [MS flight sim] ....and since then probably 500+ on third party add-ons...

the golden days are definitely behind since the extinction of XP and the GFC, but I wouldn't say the product is 'unpopular'... people are more inclined to hold onto their money for necessities in hard times and the world of customising seems to have shrunk somewhat since the XP days where it was absolutely necessary to customise because Luna would make your eyes bleed...

I mentioned that back on reply #2. The poster of this thread hasn't been back here once to reply to anything. I believe he or she is just reading this and laughing. Saying to their-self, look at the BS I started. It's a given from the replies that most appreciate the Master skins and even the free ones. Maybe we shouldn't humor these types of people anymore. If there weren't any replies to these types of threads they would just go away.

this shows that you have not even given the little trouble to think about what I've actually written, before you got started getting offensive. 
I simply understood the perspective of a customer that Pixel brought up and that’s what motivated me posting in the first place.
A customer will look at the skins price tag and will compare it to the price of the app in this case windowblinds or OD.
The skin: let’s face it isn’t something very cheap since you get a whole app for that price. A Stardock APP

As you mentioned some app developers only modify code or copy and paste...
Whether they copy and paste code ( im sure not everyone is doing that ) where is the difference between them or me creating a skin based on diamond?
It is basically the same, using existing code and pixels modifying them based on an idea. Did i miss something unless the concept that is needed to do both.
Never said  that your work or LS work isn’t worth it read closely
