Saturday, December 14, 2002 by WolfwoodX | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I have been running my system to its limits for 3 years; Winamp3, Photoshop7, Flash MX, Object Desktop, Swish v2, WMP 9, all of the other resorce hungray apps, I've been pushing it with a:

- Celeron 600 overclocked to 900
- 256Mb sdram
- 133 fsb mainboard with 2pci slots no agp (gag)
- 20gig 7500rpm HDD (runs windows)
- 4gig 5500rpm HDD (runs linux)
- 8mb SiS video card (ouch)
- 17" Korea Data Systems Monitor (pos)
- Labtec speakers
- 10x4x32 HP 9300 CD-RW
- Zip100 parallel external (pos)
- Windows 2000 Pro
- RedHat 8

Try and top that..

Hmmm... I have to make do with what I've got:

800Mhz Celeron
Packard Bell Motherboard which has no AGP and a AMR slot!!!!
192mb RAM (was 64, but I stuck a 128 in there)
2 DVD drives (the one which came didn't work, so I added another )
Iomega external CDRW drive (I added this too)
USB2 card (yes, you guessed it, this was another upgrade...)
GeForce4 PCI 64mb graphics (...yes, another upgrade!!! )
20gb Hard Drive with 5400 rpm
WindowsXP ( )

This started off as a Packard Bell IConnect - yukky OEM machine - cheap at the time - but it is better now. Still want a new pc though!!!!

Well, this is not some PC sitting in the closet, but my only PC at home:
- Celeron 300
- 384 Megs or RAM
- 8 Megs 3DFX Voodoo 3 (or is it Voodoo 2?) gfx card
- Bought a 20 Gig HD last year

Running XP Pro, and all the latest apps, including Flash MX, Deamweaver MX and Photoshop 7.

It gets the job done. Not too quickly mind you.

Up until a month ago:

-AMD -2 450
-160megs of pc100 RAM
-4meg ATI Rage Pro built in, no AGP slot(has been the cause of much grinding of teeth)
-6gig Hard drive
-32X CD
-1 PCI slot (another cause of teeth grinding)
-1 ISA slot
-XP Pro
-17" Dell Trinitron(Sony?) monitor best part of the whole system

This system is being given to the In-Laws since it is not possible to upgrade the beast anymore. >

New system put together from parts donated by friends and family that took pity on me when they built their new systems.

-Athlon(original slot type) 715
-384megs pc100 RAM
-32meg TNT2
-13gig hard drive that died a swift death this weekend.
-6gig hard drive
-32x cd
-4x2x24 CD-RW
-5 PCI slots
-2 ISA slots
-Uses the same monitor as above

Still not what I really want but at least now the kids can play the games they got for last Christmas.

Several OLD systems running around in the basement/test lab.
