The Rating System
Wednesday, December 11, 2002 by JamMeister33 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
The rating system is being abused by malicious minded people who either have a grudge, or just get a twisted
pleasure out of having the power to negatively influence other people's hard work.

I just wanted to say that people do not see the same way ever. Some people (me included) see minute, microscopic detail (right now I am looking into an office nearly two blocks distant. A woman was talking on the phone, her shoulders drooped, and she sat down hard in front of the computer but she is not working. just sitting still). Some people see the big picture better. I can not really describe that, but I think it must be why my sister doesn't understand why I need to sweep up all the crumbs and polish off all the water-drops from the glasses.
How is it relevant here? I can get way off on extremely minute details. I see a lot of that kind of innovation in adni18's work. It is outstanding to me and I appreciate it. I know that other works are rich in the visual presentation that I normally do not appreciate; therefore, I do not dispute the ratings or comments that other people make. As far as I am concerned, the way people work, the way they grow and evolve cannot be mandated to any standard. It is something within them and that they respond to within their own time parameters. The direction they evolve in is individual (thank God) and by nature must proceed as their nature leads them.
For me, I would never dream of rating a skin I did not download and play with, nor could I ever rate a skin in context of any other work than just that skin. Much of the time I do not rate at all.

Ah well, JM. To tell you the honest truth, I am in a fragile state of mind right now. I am not brave enough to open many of these threads. I have enough real life hurt that I am trying not to see all this other stuff. It took all my nerve to post just that. You have my permission to cut and paste whatever you want. I just don't have the heart for a lot of this any more. sorry.Reply #88 Wednesday, December 11, 2002 11:40 PM

Thank you goodmorphing, your opinion is opposite than kinrik's and this sould give a lot of thoughts to everyone.
I don't want to go on with this thread, I respect the beautiful spirit of Christmas, which doesn't fit with this misery kind of arguments.

"well, i rate two things, walls and sysmetrix skins, because i use them, and I rate nothing else (far as i recall).
there have been NUMEROUS times i have wanted to break adni's perfect ratings just because MY PERSONAL opinion is that his work is repetetive (in a broad sense...a lot of the exact same themes with different shades, in my opinion). however, i have NEVER actually been willing to give him a "1" just to drop the "10" constant that he usually ends up with.
for the record, i simply don't rate adni's work.
and another thing, adni, i feel you simply have skill way beyond what you create. i think NOTHING you have made sucks in any way. i'm just waiting for you to break out."
so...to put it in plainer english...
i am talking about adni's walls only(don't recall him making a sysmetrix skin, sorry if i missed it)
adni's walls are great technically and artistically
adni's walls have a bit of repetetive theming going on over the past months
i am hoping to see him expand past his comfort zone he is keeping himself in with these walls
i am not asking him to change, just waiting for the inspiration to kick in again (hoping)
the main reason i call out adni and no others is his work is so prevelant in the community. name one person who has never, ever seen his work, even if accidentally when someone used it as a backdrop for a skin. it's all over, and most of it has received extremely high, if not perfect marks.
styl's work is similar in that the theming is fairly constant. the skill is there, though.
it's interesting seeing the potential for the next russ or treetog or mobuisCo staring you in the face, and to some his level of skill is apparently already there. take a stroll back in memory lane sometime, though, and see the works that made the greats what they are today.
anyways, i'm apparently not getting through to those who i'm trying to reach, again.
good luck. enjoy your art.
and if i were in your shoes, i'd be ignoring me anyways. when was the last time i created something and got it hosted on this place? (hint: never)

As you say..."misinterpretations apparently abound."
That is the problem with the typed word over the face to face, looking into the eyes word.
It is too easy to misunderstand what the person who typed it intended it to mean.

i think i commented on another skin for a different app as well, but i don't recall exactly why at the time.
anyways, like I was saying, I try to only comment on what I use.
also, I don't usually rate a wall unless I think the visibility should be there, especially for a new artist, even if the work isn't up to adni's quality, simply because i am hoping others will see the work and provide helpful critiques (sp?) as well, and i know the rating system and everyone's diverse interests may keep it down otherwise.
ok, I know what I meant above. let's see if it came across correctly this time

windowblinds
quicknotes
sysmetrix
rainlendar
some variation of liteSTEP (don't recall the shell replacement's name anymore)
beatnik
and a handful of other apps i don't recall anymore.
i have commented on the skins i was interested in at the time relating to what i used.
pretty much right now i just check out the walls and use sysmetrix. i get way too busy to have the other stuff running and be of real use to me.

Mine was just to prove...it took me longer to install the proggy than it did to 'create the work'...followed by all that wasted life and effort waiting for a render.
No matter how 'groovy' a newbie to Bryce might think 'his' work is, it really isn't.
My cat walking on my keyboard could probably do a better Bryce than mine was.
But like all methods of 'art' creation, there are people who CAN do it better than others. I'd just like to think that anything along the standard of mine would be drowned at birth...
