Dear Scott Sproat

Tuesday, December 3, 2002 by Klatuu Berada | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Dear Mr. Sproat
I don't know about other skin authors, but as for myself I appreciate CONSTRUCTIVE critisism. It helps to improve my design, and working knowledge of SkinStudio. There is never a need to be rude or negative to people who are donating their time and talent for no other compensation than the appreciation of others. It has been said that those who can...Do, those who cannot...Teach, I guess those who can do neither merely critisize. One more thing, your comment as to the superiority of ME over XP speaks volumes to those in the computer community.

I have to add my agreement to Klatuu's. I have not only been the recipient of several very negative and non-constructive comments from Mr. Sproat on several of my skins, but every skin that I have been in the comments section for and seen a comment from Mr. Sproat, its been negative and rude. You have not contributed any skins to the community so you have no clue as to the hard work put in by all of the artists here to not only learn the programs, but to come up with creative and original skins to offer to anyone who would like to download them. Your comments might hold more weight if you actually contributed more than your non-constructive comments. And I do have one question; why are you constantly visiting a website that features enhancements for XP if you use ME and believe that it is so much more superior than XP?

Just out of curiosity, what did he comment on?

Klatuu...I just looked through all the comments on your skins...didn't see any by a 'Scott Sproat'.

If you get any obnoxious comments, just let me know and I'll look into them.

If they are particularly 'iffy' they can be removed...and if the commenter is/makes a practise of being objectionable he can be removed, like-wise...

Jafo. I was refering to comments made about other peoples skins. Some Swtnssss skins and particularly OvaKill by Gabriel, which prompted me to post this. Thanks for taking note.

Jafo: Thank you for the quick attention with this. I would like to apologize for my reactions to Mr. Sproat in Gabriel's comment section. I don't let comments bother me about my own skins, but Gabriel has just started making skins for the community and it is not fair for him to get pounced on by others and maybe decide it isn't worth the hassle to continue contributing. Once I realized a slinging match was starting the subject was brought here. Gabriel doesn't deserve this kind of thing in his comments section. Again, thank you.

Evidently Mr Sproat is back in the OvaKill comments section and has taken exception to Jafo's comments.

Perhaps Jafo could take a look? That skin's comment section could do with a bit of a clean up.

Letter from Paul to the objectionables.....

"Scott...

Sadly for you, you failed to heed my warning and unfortunately I AM someone to take notice of.

Wincustomize.com strives to be a 'decent' place for skinners to congregate and release their works for the general public.
We are the largest site [in terms of hits] in this Skinning community, with 440,000 members, and counting.

I doubt you will be missed.

And another heads-up....generally speaking, all of the skinning sites tend to have little time for people abusing what is given 'freely'.

Enjoy your life.

Cheers,
Paul Martin

One thing that rankles me is some people's inability to be courteous and polite, assuming the anonymity of the net gives them carte blanche to be rude and disrespectful.
I always have found it wise to 'lurk' in order to get to know exactly what is considered appropriate behaviour on a particular site....eg, on Devart it's almost mandatory to resort to colourful language... , whereas here it is NOT.

People learn from their mistakes....eventually, or perish in the process....
