PiXtudio ... did i miss something ???

Saturday, November 9, 2002 by neophil78 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

it was a time, a few month ago when i saw a very nice work of one of my favorite designer - Treetog - which was called PiXtudio suite, and for which i had to pay (i don't remember exactly, about 10 $ - not too much and symbolic to help him in his work ...)

did i miss something or the PiXtudio suite is now downloadable for free ???? if it is (i'm not sure), Treetog please send me back (symbolicly) my 10 $ (or about)

thanks ....

Once again, it's not really for the price in itself (as it is not becomming a big habit, but just for the spirit of the thing ..... )

Anyway, with the lot of softwares to upgrade, 10$ + 10$ + 10$ + ...................................................... + 10$ become to give quiet a lot of $ ... don't u think so???? (i'm telling that as well for Stardock Team)

I knew, someone will be bitching about that...
As said in this thread : https://www.wincustomize.com/msgboard.asp?id=73897

The suite is quite old, so many of us had it about one year ago.
And it didn't have XP support then.

And wanting the money back is quite ridiculous, btw.
There are still some skins of the suite You can't get for free.
Do You know, what huge amount of work has to be spent for a MusicMatch skin ???
That skin alone is still worth the money IMHO.

The 10§ were the price to get the skins at the time of release. When pixtudio releases their next exclusice suite, try to wait
a year or two until they maybe release it for free. Since the
skinning scene is really quit at the moment, i am happy pixtudio
is around and is producing such quality skins and i am happy when
i can a few bucks to keep them around.

Hmm, let's take a very pracical example : Software Company XY sells a graphic program. One year later it is available for free on different computer magazine CD's. Do the people who purchased that program before want their money back ? I am pretty sure they do not.

I purchased a GAMECUBE last year for $200, but they recently lowered the price to $150! I want a $50 refund! I won't receive one though, because that is the price one must pay to obtain a product earlier than those that wait for it to become free.

Listen to Hailstorm, Listen to Brazil, Listen to c242, Listen to manni. If Alex and Treetog asked for another 8 dollars for an updated Pixtudio theme I would gladly pay it, I wouldn't even think twice. I have payed for all three of the themes that they have released and can't wait to send them my money again. The fact that OVER a year after they released it for the first time they are offering it for free, I think is fantastic. There are lots of people who can't afford to pay a couple of dollars for may reasons and the fact that they can now enjoy Pixtudio's work is great. When I saw that Treetog had posted the Pixtudio skins my first thought was I hope that this means that they are getting ready to release a new package!!! (Hope, Pray, Hope, Pray)

Alex, Treetog please keep giving me reasons to send you money!

Chris

neophil78...If you will send me your address, I will mail you a check for $10.00, if you will just stop whining. After the contribution that Treetog/Alexandrie have made to the Windows desktop, I am just amazed at such pettiness.

neophil78:

I will answer you the same way i did in another thread.

Yes this was the same suite you are thinking. The thing is, after over one year of release, I saw that the suite was totally auto of date and I decided to update some skins and some new others.

For doing that I spent one week of long nights working on it and I was going to ask for some extra bucks for people to have the update, but while I was working, i decided to give this for free, trying to show my greatfull to the community.

Did I did something wrong?

Now, if you think that the $8,00 (and not $10,00) you spent didn't worth your espectations and now you feel like you were damaged in some way, please send me your bank info to my email adress [email protected] and I will be happy to send you on real and not symbolicly your money back.

In fact, before releasing it for free i thought that this kind of thing could happen, but | optioned to make some thousands of people happy then 1 or 2 desapointed.

Thank you c242, manny, brazil, Hailstorm, Grog and jeblands for the words of support.

Treetog, Most of us here really appreciate the wonderful work that you do. And, after dabbling a bit in skinning (mostly screwing up other peoples pixels), I certainly appreciate the time that you put into making these creations.

c242: All the Pixtudio suite skins will be avaiable for free on pIxtudio web site, since the hole suite is not for sale anymore, I just didn't have the time to make the screenshots and upload them. I am taking a weekend off PS, I have skinned like a maniac lattely, so very probably they will be there next week.

Same post on the other thread

treetog? I am a big supporter of Pixtudio, and i would never ask for my money back because of something i paid for in the past that is now availible for free, and i don't think that anyone else should either

I have happily paid for all three of Pixtudio's Suites and will gladly pay for anything else that Alexandrie and youself come up with, the Quality of work that comes from Pixtudio is worth every cent!

I am very happy that Pixtudio was updated and made availible for free. You did nothing wrong treetog, it is we that are grateful for having Pixtudio a vital part of the SkinMunity

How sad that a truly generous gesture by Treetog is now the object of apparent criticism from someone who evidently feels ill used in some fashion.

If it's not about the money, then what is it about? The "spirit" or principle? What principle is that? You paid for use of an exclusive suite and you've had that. Evidently you previously didn't begrudge Treetog the small fee for the suite or question its value. And now you have a upgraded version but because Treetog made it available for all, you begrudge him his act of generosity? Is his work now less worthy of the support you willingly provided previously?

You haven't been harmed in any fashion and if it's not about the money which you evidently willingly paid to help support his work, then it must be about repaying him for all the work he has provided us (the vast majority for free) with such pettiness. As you see, the funds you previously paid will be refunded if you wish. You cannot however so easily take back the sting of your comments to your "favorite designer" who finds himself criticised for an act of well-intentioned generosity.

neophil78....frankly I'm disappointed that you could not equate this later free release of a previously paid-for product with any and every other form/example of the same prsctise in other spheres of endeavour.

To suggest that treetog [and Alexandrie] may somehow have wronged you is absurd, and would be better followed with words of contrition.

I'm afraid I'd be frowning at treetog if he were to send you a refund. The subsequent actions do not warrant it, but he's just such a good person that he offers....

It's treedogs suite in the first place. Isn't he allowed to what he pleases with his own property? Being he is your favorite designer, maybe you should send him another $10 as a donation for everything he has done for free. I wish there was an emoticon of a hand slapped face right about now.

following neophil78's logic... then I am afraid I am deeply in debt since almost everything I use has gone up in cost since I got it. Don't tell, OK? I can't afford to go on getting stuff if I have to pay all that difference on the stuff I already have....

Thank you treetog.... I love it. I wondered what it was like for a long, long time. It is beautiful!

Many things depreciate in value over time. Take milk for example.

I don't understand why every time someone makes a complaint about something, they are
immediately branded as being ungrateful to the community. In this instance, someone has
made a complaint about a company (Pixtudio) and issues related to a product that they paid them for. Does he not have a right to voice his displeasure at others receiving for free what he paid for? Perhaps a public forum such as this was not the place to raise this issue though. Treetog had to realize that there would be some who would be unhappy with this decision. Whether you're doing this for free or for profit, we all know you can't please everyone. I've bought all the Pixtudio suites and love them. Personally I don't care if they release any of them for free a day after I bought them. I got the suites....that's what I paid for and I don't care if others have them, or if they paid for them.

Another example of this is when several people complained about the XP Augustus "Suite". This
suite was something that they paid for. Granted, it is only one piece of the subscription package, but a product they paid for nonetheless. As soon as people complained about the suite, which they had every right to do, they were branded as being ungrateful and non supportive of the community because whoever put this suite together did it for free.

Yes, there are quite a few senseless complaints made around here, mainly dealing with issues
related to the download cap. But when you have people who usually pay their way around here who are making a complaint, stop and think before you label them ingrates.
