Suggestions for 2014 WC Community Project
Tuesday, February 4, 2014 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
The last community skin we did was the Holiday Community Suite back in 2009. I wouldn't mind doing another winter holiday suite, but that's for later in the year.

So lets start getting ideas for the next community suite. Do we go for a season like Spring or Summer? Another holiday? A different type of theme?
Lets hear it and discuss it and get moving on the next one.

Quoting sydneysiders, reply 427is it a piece of coding that could be added?
no there isn't.
yes, there is.
the key would be using variables and gradients when creating the skin. Rainlendar's "new" (just about 8 years) skin format offers everything that is necessary. if you would want a color picker gui instead of being limited to pre-defined variables, you could create that in Rainlendar itself, but i'd personally would use a third party app for that, the api is powerful enough for that.
Hi moshi, from things I have seen you answer I would never doubt what you say. However the skins we make are using the ini format not the newer format. This can be done using the ini format?

I am using the latest version. however the ini format was all you could make a skin in. Now all the new ones are in .xml format and after you get everything done you convert it to a r2skin format to upload. Takes a lot to learn this. But the ;latest version still allows you to make it the way we do. The reason I asked moshi is because I know you can do it if you are making it in the new format but not with an ini file.

dock/Rainlendar/Wallpaper/whatever... made for the 'Community Suite Project' based on Bleumart's "Metall Tech" Windowblind.

interesting.... I get what you're saying... if only I understood how to do it....
maybe one day Rainlendar will include it in their program...

This can be done using the ini format?
no, that's not possible as INI as a format with only sections and options is pretty limited (you can do awesome stuff with it as you can see with Rainmeter, but XML as a format makes much more sense for Rainlendar) and Kimmo stopped developing that skin format long ago.
there is one thing you should have in mind: XML as INI is just a method to structure data, it is not a scripting language. you can script Rainlendar using Lua scripts, but you really won't need that until you want to create really sophisticated stuff.
after all it depends on what you want to do. Rainlendar is capable of much more than the skins here at Wincustomize do (no offense, there's nothing wrong when people enjoy what they are doing, but almost all of them are paint by numbers). be it displaying more than one month, weather forecasts, rss readers, calendar and appointments in the same window, variables etc.
maybe it's worth learning something new, it might be even fun. ![]()

Hallo to all the great skinners participating to this Community Suite Project especially to bleumart !
well I couldn't resist, so here I am with 2 tray docks (one multiple)
maybe late but as the last one in play I hope you don't worry I used all your avatars in the preview as icons on the docks
(and also the cheerleaders) I'll wait for your "go" before to upload
