Does any one Use Beatnik or ICQ Plus anymore?

Tuesday, October 29, 2002 by elvee | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I mean with SysMetrix becoming a hit and WorkShelf and Desktopx are able to have clocks are there any true Beatnik fans out there?

Since switching to Trillian i have all but forgotten about ICQ Plus. How about you?

I use trillian and dumped my ICQ account when I started getting spammed hourly.

As for beatnik, never used it, nor sysmetrix.

Beatnik with the Ampulla skin is very small and attractive and always visible and I like it.
I don't care about sysmetrix because I don't need that information.
I don't do any instant messaging.

If you're thinking of deleting the Beatnik category, that's OK with me, because I wouldn't even look at any new Beatnik skins.

Trillian, Winstep (NextStart and WorkShelf) and CoolMon here. Sysmetrix from time to time depending on the theme I'm using at the time

6days 5 hours and 58 minutes running SysMetrix...I may change shell themes and shells, but Sysmetrix keeps on telling me how much time I'm wasting on my comp...

I still use ICQ Plus. I have tried Trillian 3 times, and I don't like it all. It doesn't work for me as well as ICQ. I haven't used BeatNik for some time now.

Koasati, if you use the advanced features of any IM client, you want to use the client made specifically for that service.

Trillian is good if you just do regular chatting and simple file sharing. I use it because it takes up less memory than having AIM, YIM, MIM, ICQ, and IRC running at the same time.

I still use ICQ (plus AIM and MSM) but I rarely go on IRC so I haven't tried Trillian. When I was going to try it I heard they'd been locked out by AIM - don't know if that's still true...

Still occaisionaly use Beatnik too.

I never really used Beatnik much, but Sysmetrix is running all the time. I still have ICQ, but I seldom use it. I do most of my chatting with MSN messenger or on IRC. It seems most of the people who are on my ICQ list now use MSN as well. Trillian always seemed too bloated and buggy for me, although I haven't tried it in months.

I've never used either. I'm very old-fashioned when it comes to certain things.
For the time, I look at my watch, or the clock on the wall.
For messaging I will still write a letter and post it, or, if I'm in a real hurry I'll use a telephone.

I was using Coolmon for a bit, but have now switched over to Sysmetrix (actually trying to make some of my own skins for it...yikes!). I'm a big fan of Trillian...don't need all the "extras" of the other software, which I quite happily uninstalled when I got Trillian.

Just goes to show ya, one person's drink is another's poison.

No, don't use ICQ+ anymore since I started using Trillian (I love Trillian).
As for Beatnik, the main reason I used it was to sync my time with an atomic clock, but since XP has that feature integrated, I don't use Beatnik anymore. I just look at my taskbar to know the time.

I always use beatnik. I use it because it has a very good alarm and reminder system. If I could find another which had the same small footprint, was totally skinnable and had an alarm and reminder system that good, I'd lose beatnik, but I don't see any alternatives.

Never sen a use for Beatnik.

I'm an ICQ addict - and through it ICQ Plus. It does everything I need. Plus, its integration with Winstyles and that nifty feature of ICQ Plus that lets it import WB themes for ICQ skins means I can have coordinated applications. I'm fussy over that sort of thing - my ICQ, WB and Winamp MUST match If I stopped using ICQ, my desktop would just be so... unstylish, and I can't have that now, can I?

I do wish more people would support ICQ Plus for this very reason. Though as I said, being able to import WB skins does make up for that. A bit.
