Bariatric Surgery Patients? UPDATED

Do you have anything to share?

Wednesday, July 31, 2013 by RedneckDude | Discussion: Community

Hi guys. Just wanted to see if anyone out there has had bariatric surgery and if so, do you have anything you'd like to share?

Helpful tips, things to watch out for, etc.

My wife and I are gearing up for the gastric sleeve surgery. In order to get the insurance company to pay, we both had to lose 10% of our weight, as a show of commitment.

Lisa made her 10% goal today!    Yay Lisa!! I weighed in today with the hospital dietitian, I have lost 9 lbs. since last weigh in!

I still lack 11 lbs.  But I have greatly reduced the amount of insulin I use and am at a point of having a blood sugar average of 80 - 110 mg/d. I was averaging around 250 - 300 and had an A1C of 11 - 13. I expect an A1C of 8 or less when I see my Dr. mid August.

I have been walking the track at the hospital where Lisa works. Getting from 4 - 6 miles each time I walk. Protien shakes and an 1800 calorie per day diet is going well.

I would greatly appreciate any tips, tricks, recipes, stories, etc. that you may want to share!   Wish us luck!

OK, guys. Update time.

Lisa gets her surgery tomorrow morning. Please send good thoughts, vibes, prayers, etc.

I am down 8 more lbs as of today. 3.5 to go to qualify for the insurance to pay for mine.

Jim,

Go back to Reply #30 and up the dosage by .5oz. Nothing like flying around the house like an unattended fire hose to get those additional lbs to melt away. Combine that with the acts of necessary house cleaning after the fact and you will be sure to weigh in well under your goal.

So glad to be of assistance!
