Monitor envy...

I decided to go ahead and get a new (cheap) monitor and I was wondering what to look for. Mostly I want bigger, but now I see that includes ont only 1024 X 768 but one size even bigger. Both are affordable for me.. Is bigger better? I have seen some in stores that are kind of rounded and the clarity and color seems a little off... what do I check for to avoid that?

Thanks. I see all kinds of notations on the site that is selling them and I don't know what eveything means. what is a dpi?

GM. The smaller the # the better the image. My monitor is a few years old and it will handle 640x480 to to 1280x1024. So do not worry about that. Mine is a .26: my other one is a .21. I have no problems with the .26. That is your dot pitch. But if you get one of those bargin monitors be careful because I've seen them in the .3+ range. Tends to get fuzzy.

HEH... it is the image that is important to me. I really love pretty things. That is why I love this place so much (and you all are so nice!).
I notice the cheaper ones at that place are saying UNSPECIFIED.. for dot pitch. I imagine that means big like 3+.

Yes GM. The smaller the pitch the higher the $$$. But like I said I'am comfortable with the .26. For what I do it's ok. You should still beable to get one for under $200 That is a 17in monitor.

Nokia, Sonny and Mitsubitsi with super flat tube are the best, (there are some other monitors that they have the Mitsubichi Diamontron or the super flat Sonny tubes, these are fine too).
17" to 19" are ok for non professionals and they have all the resolutions.

Thanks much W.O.M.... I'll keep looking. I want to fix up my old computer for my sister if she will take it. She is really paranoid about them, but I have gotten her to play cards and even send an email to my brother. I think it could be a good therapeutic tool... Only I don't feel comfortable letting her poke around in my own stuff.

Check out the NEC MiltiSync FE700 line http://www.necmitsubishi.com/products/home/nec_index.cfm. They have nice flat screens, low dot pitch, and are resonably priced. I've had mine for a few years now with no problems at all.

The FE700 (17")is one of the ones I use along with the 990 (19"). These monitors are excellent quality for the price. (I bought the FE700 rebuilt for 100 bucks Canadian.)
The 990 was bought new for just over 400 bucks.

I have a cheap Viewsonic and perfectly happy with it. At work, the guy next to me has a Sony screen, and frankly, I don't see the difference.

I got a HP 17 inch monitor mx70. It came bundled with my system.
