Personally, I think the industry is pushing HTML5 and you all are a part of the industry. I've encountered non-IE8 supported websites already, a growing trend.

Is this limitation noted on the WB site, are there instructions for visitors or a list of recommended browsers? just being curious.

Since this came up last time I have done some of my own checking on this IE button. This is all using IE. If you download Object Backgrounds, Rainlendar and some others all the graphics are put in a folder and zipped and they download and open to the folder the graphics are in. I just uploaded my Kahlua Wb and deleted the tempng folder and the backup folder. Zipped the WBA and it seems to download fine. My suggestion to try is place your WBA inside a folder and than zip it and upload.

Not 100% sure this will solve the IE problem but makes sense to me. So unless there is a problem uploading like this for the mods or against the rules I will try it next time. Just seems funny how everything else downloads and opens correctly and the only thing different is the graphics are in a folder and the folder is zipped. I'm not complaining here just throwing out a suggestion for the skinners to try.

Use Firefox, you won't have that issue any more.

When downloading a windowblind i hit save & replace the zip with wba & it works.

Haven't tried it yet Greg. However when you unzip you will see a folder. open the folder and the wba will be in there. Can't see how that can go bad.

No one says they use IE however there sure are a lot of different post about the problem. Was just a suggestion or thought i had and not a problem for me to open a folder and double click the wba file to install. doubt if anyone will put it it a folder anyway. Fo some reason my last couple of uploads didn't open with all the files showing. not sure unless it's because I delete the folders inside the wba before I zip. I'm at the point when I want to downlload a WB I use Chrome to do it with.

You know something I don'? If you download a zip that has a wba in it when you unzip the file you see the wba abd than double click on it to install it. With what I said you put it in a folder and zip it. the only extra step is to open the folder than double click on the wba. How would one just download a zipped wba open the zip and than it self installs by itself?

The workaround of renaming the .zip is easy enough for those that have file extensions showing. Not everyone does. It's easy enough to change that if you know how, but again, not everyone does. It's an unnecessary hoop for new people to jump through. and a nuisance to all. .wba's were made to self install and did so seamlessly up until things got whacked somewhere.

The other "workaround" of using another browser is also easy, if you have or want something other than IE for a browser. Not everyone does, "A third party browser is required to correctly download all content" Not a great selling point for subscriptions to WC if you ask me.

  I want to use the OS supplied browser if for no other reason than the Flagship WindowBlinds skins it just fine. (Thanks, Neil.)  That alone for me is reason enough to keep using IE. I wasn't all that impressed with Chrome in that department.  At one time, IE was top dog and some of the Stardock sites actually needed IE to be used in order to function well. How times have changed.

The fact is that it worked before and was somehow broken for IE8 on XP and IE9 on Win7. Does it matter who or what broke it?  All I'd like to ask is that maybe the web guys can at least look into the matter? If it is what it is, and cannot be fixed then so be it, but could someone find the time to at least try to correct this?

I know some hate Ie but I actually use it and have no problems except for wba files. I mentioned above I use Chrome to download windowblinds. That is all I use it for. I only go back 5 years so don't know how things worked before that. All I do know is this zip problem opening all the wba files just started well not sure 6 months or a year ago.

I really wrote to put the wba file in a folder than zip it to see if maybe someone from WC would comment to the fact that that would work. Yes it would be a work around but if you recall all the comments from people having this problem that would solve some of it at least. I don't even know if WC would allow you to put it in a seperate folder, zip and upload. Was just a thought wiz that is all. So I live with it and use another browser to download. No big deal just a little inconvience.

WIZ, this is off topic but going to ask you anyway. Use to be when I installed a wb on the bottom right of the screen it use to say A new skin has been installed. If I clicked on that right away the new skin loaded. I haven't has that pop up forever now but know some have it because I see it in screen shots. any suggestions how I can get that back again?

In the absence of an IANA-designated content-type for WBA files, the generic binary type (application/octet-stream) is the most appropriate, and that's what the site uses. Changing the WBA format to not be ZIP-based would probably be the only way to keep IE from deciding it knows better if it's ignoring the content-type and sniffing the binary anyway, and that's not really feasible for such a minor issue.

Related (or not), Firefox used to lose anything after the space if a download file had a space in the name Not sure if it still does, but that was a heck of a lot more annoying than just getting the extension changed.

Wiz, it's not going to get fixed. Brad has made a decision and that's that. All one to think about is that wba downloads worked well from the guic site but did not from the wb site. It's a choice by the site manager and not the browser but it is more convenient to blame the browser. This kind of thing has happened before (IE7) and it probably won't be the last.

there is no such thing as coincidence or promotions for those that make note of the inconsistencies.

that's because of the ads that track you, Wincustomize's part in it is only to have a contract with those ad companies. if your surfing behaviour would have suggested you would be interested in Samsung phones, you would have gotten an ad for those.

consider using something like Ghostery if you do not like being tracked. it does not work as good on IE as it does on other browsers though.

I switched over to IE to see if I encounter some of these anomalies and I did. I downloaded Future Sound with IE9. It arrived as a .zip file so I clicked on it. I use Izarc unzipper and it tells me what's inside. Instead of a .wba there are all the graphics for the blind. Its as if IE unzips the .wba. I used to encounter this a while ago. I thought that the skinner just took all the parts and zipped them up like that. Then I played with the file extension and saw the difference. That time I was using Firefox, I never used any other browser. I just thought some did and some didn't.

Just as the IE issue, I explained why ads popup like that.
