friggin zip file
Thursday, January 10, 2013 by gmc2 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I had to download one of my blinds today and it downloaded as a zip, not wba, file.
Is anything being done to correct this or are we just suppose to suck eggs and move on.
It does seem rhetorical, doesn't it.

What if I've never surfed for a samsung phone. I wonder if anyone else experienced this occurrence. I also block all tracking cookies.
I guess that means you have no reciprocal agreements with MS? just asking not accusing.

Seriously, what are you talking about?
Agreement for what?

browsing for Samsung -> more Samsung ads.
visiting that thread on Wincustomize often -> more Windows phone ads.
and blocking cookies is not enough. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-20005185-83.html

Thank you for your response, kyro. As I said, I don't know how a website works under the hood, only that WC did run on most cylinders most of the time. I think it is beyond a simple tune-up now though.
The same thing happens to .ip and .suite extensions, so .wba files aren't the only issue. Oddly enough, subscriber skins (anybody remember those?) still download to a temp folder and self-install properly with no problem.
If I am going to "forced" into using another browser to get around the site dysfunctions, I will. I use my software and I want the files to arrive in the intended format. If Stardock lacks the resources to maintain WinCustomize, then it (and many other things) won't get fixed any time soon, if at all. Things are tough all over. Other browsers have ad-blockers and most other incentives for subscribing are long gone. In four days, I'll be here five years and plan on being here until they close the doors, issues or no, but to quote someone loosly "If the value isn't there, don't spend your money" I can accept that and save my subscription money.

Wiz I have to say that I am admittedly a horribly cheap-a**-b**t**d and even I feel that under the current pricing structure the value is there for the WC sub, warts and all. I'm so cheap, in fact, that I'd take the current arrangement with some warts over a more expensive wart-less version. Now I'm not wanting to minimize any issues or whatever, I guess I'm just saying "I like affordable, please keep it that way, I've got warts too."

It was something, I believe, you said when there were some silverlight threads back when. I thought I remember something regarding a partnership with MS, whatever that might be, I wouldn't know beyond that.

It looks like they have found a possible fix, but it will need to be deployed on the site in the next couple of days.

UPDATE: I just downloaded 2 WB's that had arrived as zips before. Now, not only does it show up as a .wba, there is the option to open or save it after clicking the download button. Awesomeness, guys, I've wanted that ability for like, forever! Whatever changes are being made, they are certainly in the right direction.
Thank you, web guys!!!
Looks like I'll be renewing my sub after all.

Wouldn't you know it, just when you get used to things working as they were someone comes along and changes them.
