Well My Arse Has Been Well & Truly Kicked Into The 21st Century

Well I have 3 devices synced together and I can do all sorts of stuff I'd never even dreamed of.
First off I synced my Win 8 PC to my Android 4 tablet.... which a while ago I didn't need or want.
Next I synced my Android tablet to the Android SmartPhone I was never going to get... "a phone is for making calls and nohing else." or words to that effect. I suppose the phone being a gift from my mother had something to do with the: "I got me a SmartPhone" change of heart.
Then I synced the SmartPhone I never intended to own to my Windows 8 PC... meaning I can text my phone from the PC and answer it without leaving my desk, hehe. The advantage, however, is that I am better connected than I have ever been and I can operate my PC from upstairs via Splashtop or call my PC from my doctor's surgery and access files, folders, etc.
There's plenty of room on the phone as it has a 32gb memory card that I can store music, photos and short video clips on... oh, and the ringtones it came with. Took an nearly an hour just to hear them all to decide which one. It has a more than decent media player as well, the sound quality is a lot better than my MP3 player, which wasn't/isn't cheap and nasty.
So, for all the stuff I didn't like, want or need, and wasn't ever going to get [not mentioning my dislike/distrust of Google], I seem to have come the full circle and then some. I mean, fancy that, me with Google products. Never thought I'd see the day, and I wasn't dragged kicking and screaming, either.
I even have a G-mail account, so I've well and truly joined the ranks of the traitors, but that was better than becoming an Apple fanboi. Sorry Boxxi, but I simply couldn't push myself into making that choice. The fear of waking up the next day all smug and nerdy was too much to bear, so I settled for an evil that probably phones home, but what the heck. The only thing I've got to hide is my collection of Playboy centerfolds, but I figure they'd have those up on their office walls anyhow, so what does it matter. And another thing, I didn't want all my devices with a frigging i in front of 'em
Anyhow, here I am, 60 next birthday, and I'm like a kid with new toys and all excited. I'm trying to remember if this feeling is as good as sex, but my memory ain't what it used to be so I'm assuming so. Yeah, these days I have a thoughty... I think about it, which wears me out and I have to take a nap. However, I digress! I think that's due to having a shorter attention span these days and frequently forgetting where I got up to... not to mention being easily distracted.... oh look, geese.
Another advantage to the SmartPhone will be not looking like a dork in the doctor's waiting room because I'm the only one there not fiddling around with a frickin' phone. Yeah, well I'm gonna go one better. I'm going to take my tablet. In fact, I'll use my tablet to call my phone [by sending a text] to make myself feel more important than that lot. Like have any of you ever noticed all these people fiddling with SmartPhones hour after hour, yet they never receive a call. Well I'm not going to be like all those lonely people - where do they all come from - my phone's gonna ring.
Orright, so I've updated you all on my new tech stuff; I've sort of indicated that I'm a hypocondriac cos I'm at the doctors a lot; I've told you I don't use Viagra cos I nod off during a thoughy, much less the real thing; I've told you that my stance against Google products has relented and that playing with Maps and Google Earth on a tablet is a lot more fun than on a PC, so now I'd Like to know if anyone has any tips on apps or anything to make the phone and tablet even more useful. Fair enough?

it is driven by Windows Phone, not Windows 8.
the great syncing is done via SkyDrive, a cloud service. but as seem to be cured from the neophobia that shouldn't be much of a problem.
overall it's a great phone, what i like best about it is the camera. you should get it before Nokia gets out of the hardware business.

Okay, if you want to get testic.... um, technical, it's a Nokia W8 phone that utilises the Windows 8 operating system.
I will get in, when the finances are right. I've got some saving to do first. While I could get one now on a no money up-front 2 year contract @ $60 a month, I'd end up paying twice what the phone is actually worth, and I'd rather that money stayed in my pocket. No, I'd rather wait until my telco has them on PAYG for around $500 - $600 in about 6 months time, then I'd own it wholly and my only costs would be calls, etc.
Mine's slightly different to the one pictured, though it is quite similar.... went fruitlessly through pages and pages of pics looking for mine, lost patience and opted for the closest/next best thing. Anyway!
And you wouldn't have.... I 'shopped' those out so's nobody would see just how old my device really is.

I have an old device Mark. But it still has a very hard drive.... It still desires an occaisional defragging....and a little crap cleaner goes a long way.
I can't blame ya tho, for not wanting everyone knowing how old it is.

Windows Phone 8 ≠ Windows 8
those are two different operating systems. but MSs marketing department must be doing something right if you fell for it.
Their marketing skills outperform their productmaking skills by a factor of 1000.
Only a very skilled marketeer can sell an old OS with an UI slapped on it made for a an underpowered low memory device and sell it as a 'major innovation'
So now their 3 different OS products all incompatible with each other.

Anyhow, getting back to the technology side of things, that @#%$ Island dog has gone and upset the friggin' apple cart with his proud [and dare I say boastful] post about owning the Nokia Lumina 920 Smartphone that does everything but wipe the sweat off your brow on a hot day.. Just when I think I've had my backside kicked into the 21st century, he comes along with this to-die-for Smartphone that makes mine look like something Fred Flintstone would have used. Bastard [in a jealous sounding but friendly term of endearment sort of a way]
I mean when you compare this phone....
To this old Neanderthal looking one....
Well there is NO comparison. The Nokia Lumina 920 wins hands down and will be a must-have phone within no time, given how it is so feature rich and leaves the iPhone in its wake. Yes, I tried out the latest iPhone while I was there and it left me feeling somewhat unimpressed. After using the Lumina 920 the iPhone 5 was definitely missing something... well a lot of something. For mine it is to damned small and fiddly, and why anybody with big hands would want one of those piss-farty fanboi toys, well it beats me. If Apple isn't quaking in its boots over this Nokia release, then it should be.
Okay, so I now have to start saving to get me one of these beauties. Not only is it nicer looking with a much bigger screen than my current phone, it is far more responsive and the usability factor is a 11 out of 10, whereas I'd rate my current phone a 7 out of 10. The thing I like a lot about the Lumina 920 is that it is driven by Windows 8 and will sync with my PC so much better than my Android one.
I dunno, I think I've caught up with the new... newer tech, and now I'm finding out about all this newest tech that.... Damn you ID, you just had to go rain on my parade, didn't ya? Thing is, while I didn't think I'd ever find a use for a Smartphone, I'm now realising the potential and that there are times when I find one is more than useful... and if I'm going to use the technology I may as well have the tools that best suit my needs, and the 920 would certainly do that.
