Well My Arse Has Been Well & Truly Kicked Into The 21st Century
and it ony hurt a little

Well I have 3 devices synced together and I can do all sorts of stuff I'd never even dreamed of.
First off I synced my Win 8 PC to my Android 4 tablet.... which a while ago I didn't need or want.
Next I synced my Android tablet to the Android SmartPhone I was never going to get... "a phone is for making calls and nohing else." or words to that effect. I suppose the phone being a gift from my mother had something to do with the: "I got me a SmartPhone" change of heart.
Then I synced the SmartPhone I never intended to own to my Windows 8 PC... meaning I can text my phone from the PC and answer it without leaving my desk, hehe. The advantage, however, is that I am better connected than I have ever been and I can operate my PC from upstairs via Splashtop or call my PC from my doctor's surgery and access files, folders, etc.
There's plenty of room on the phone as it has a 32gb memory card that I can store music, photos and short video clips on... oh, and the ringtones it came with. Took an nearly an hour just to hear them all to decide which one. It has a more than decent media player as well, the sound quality is a lot better than my MP3 player, which wasn't/isn't cheap and nasty.
So, for all the stuff I didn't like, want or need, and wasn't ever going to get [not mentioning my dislike/distrust of Google], I seem to have come the full circle and then some. I mean, fancy that, me with Google products. Never thought I'd see the day, and I wasn't dragged kicking and screaming, either.
I even have a G-mail account, so I've well and truly joined the ranks of the traitors, but that was better than becoming an Apple fanboi. Sorry Boxxi, but I simply couldn't push myself into making that choice. The fear of waking up the next day all smug and nerdy was too much to bear, so I settled for an evil that probably phones home, but what the heck. The only thing I've got to hide is my collection of Playboy centerfolds, but I figure they'd have those up on their office walls anyhow, so what does it matter. And another thing, I didn't want all my devices with a frigging i in front of 'em
Anyhow, here I am, 60 next birthday, and I'm like a kid with new toys and all excited. I'm trying to remember if this feeling is as good as sex, but my memory ain't what it used to be so I'm assuming so. Yeah, these days I have a thoughty... I think about it, which wears me out and I have to take a nap. However, I digress! I think that's due to having a shorter attention span these days and frequently forgetting where I got up to... not to mention being easily distracted.... oh look, geese.
Another advantage to the SmartPhone will be not looking like a dork in the doctor's waiting room because I'm the only one there not fiddling around with a frickin' phone. Yeah, well I'm gonna go one better. I'm going to take my tablet. In fact, I'll use my tablet to call my phone [by sending a text] to make myself feel more important than that lot. Like have any of you ever noticed all these people fiddling with SmartPhones hour after hour, yet they never receive a call. Well I'm not going to be like all those lonely people - where do they all come from - my phone's gonna ring.
Orright, so I've updated you all on my new tech stuff; I've sort of indicated that I'm a hypocondriac cos I'm at the doctors a lot; I've told you I don't use Viagra cos I nod off during a thoughy, much less the real thing; I've told you that my stance against Google products has relented and that playing with Maps and Google Earth on a tablet is a lot more fun than on a PC, so now I'd Like to know if anyone has any tips on apps or anything to make the phone and tablet even more useful. Fair enough?

Tell me something I don't know.
Thing is, it's true what they say: "It takes one to know one."
Besides, I was born weird... it just took coming here to WC and meeting up with fine dudes such as yourself for it to fully blossom.
Hehe, peas in a pod, eh?
Quoting MadDeez, reply 6Starkers, you're one weird dude.Look who is talking.
Like I said above, it takes one to know one... and the facial recognition thingwybob on Facebook proves it. You're lumped in there with all the other weird dudes who signed up for an account.

In that case, I just hope you're not wearing the concrete overcoat that seedy underground figure had you fitted for after the off-the-books surgery he came to see you for. Personally, I would have removed the bullet after he was dead, but hey, that's just me.
Not a chance, my tech spending for the year is well and truly up, and for my next year's device purchases, I'm hoping to get a Surface tablet and a Nokia Lumina 920 phone with Win 8 on it. Nope, none of that iCrap stuff for me, I'm strictly a get-it-cheaper-than-that fanboi, and I reckon the items I desire will have dropped in price by the time I've saved enough to buy them.
Oh, and how'd you know I receive my faxes that way? That was supposed to be a secret only I kn..e...w... abou...
'Ere, the AFP [Australian Federal Police] told you, didn't they.
I had a feeling those bastards were spying on me... but in the crapper, no less? Ain't anything sacred anymore? True, I used to consume copious amounts of curried cabbage, but I've been off that ever since my doctor [and tailor] advised a change of diet, so I'm not the danger to the public that I used to be... and if they're spying on me in the crapper they ought to know that.

How do you sync a Windows platform to an Android platform?
Reply #28 Tuesday, December 4, 2012 3:30 PM
In your case, duct tape, just like you do with everything else.

Oi, just remember you're on'y 3 years behind me, so it's probably not somthing you wanna be saying too loud, if at all... especially if the missus is listening and preferred that you bought her a new dress instead. Yeah, sometimes ya just gotta think ahead: "Is that a new dress you're wearing, honey? Geez it looks nice, and you wear it so well." Yup, you eliminate the new dress first, then go buy the tech.
So pleased that you found it so amusing... I aim to please. Which reminds me of the sign I saw up in a mens restroom once: "We aim to please by keeping this toilet clean, tidy and smelling nice, your aim will help.
Look, dad and I had that talk when I was about 14 or so, but if you have anything to add [that doesn't include sheep] I'm all ears.
Yes, but I wasn't talking about incontinence.
However, being I'll be the wrong side of 60 soon, it's probably something I need to think about/prepare for. I had thought about using one of those rubber ring devices I've seen advertised in some mens magazines to stop the flow. Yeah, I know that's not what they were designed for, but I'm thinking it'd be somewhat less embarrassing than having to wear a nappy [daiper to those of you in the US]. And if I get lucky while I'm out, she'll look down there, think of those ring thingumy advertisements, and say: "Oooh, darlin', I see that you've come prepared."

It'd be good if you could, hey. I mean, that way they couldn't find anything more wrong with you. The disadvantage would be the pills! The doc would say "take two of these for me"... and with nothing to catch 'em they'd fall right through. Would never get better that way, huh?
Hmmm. perhaps a pair of lighter spectacles would help... like they wouldn't so heavy and constantly pull your head forward. I know what you mean, though, because it happens to me all the time. There I am at my PC doing stuff, when I feel my head ever being pulled forward and further forward... next thing I know, Shaunna is waking me up and telling me to get my arse to bed. Damned glasses... I need lighter ones.

With a little proggie called Splashtop. With it I can control my PC downstairs with my tablet or phone while I'm upstairs, and with the 'Join Me' app that came wih my phone, I can access my phone from my PC and even send texts. Easy peasy.

'Ere, the AFP [Australian Federal Police] told you, didn't they.
Actually, they asked me to switch your usual out with:

Just as well you did! It would have been an unjustifiable violation of your Hippocratic Oath... AND my haemhorroids.
Look, leave me alone. I don't see a lot of fun these days, so please don't go ruining any thoughties I might have. And being you're 60 next birthday as well, best not go pointing the fickled finger of fate at me.
You just never know! It could end up with an arthritic bend in it... and be pointing at you instead.

Quoting starkers, reply 30she'll look down there, and say, "Oh look, I can play ring-toss."
You've been hanging around with Sideshow Bob too long, haven't you! Or you know this because it's what your missus says when you show her yer 'fooling-around' equipment and ask if she'd like to play?
Yeah, it's sad how the romance can go out of your relationship over the years. I can remember when I used to go into the bathroom [not the toilet] to see if the missus needed any help, and she'd just grab a hold and pull me into the tub with her.
Hmmm, it was ever so romantic.
Not so nowadays. I go into the bathoom these days to see if she needs any help and she just hangs her towel on it.
