you know...my brother has lived in Seattle for 5 years.... As a laid back Aussie does... he's prone to having a barbie...throwing on a shrimp or two  (prawns, actually)...  and inviting around the neighbours and friends....a very friendly, sociable character he is....  The first occassion this happened, his American wife said... you can't do that dear, you're mixing Republicans and Democrats... won't work... He said... rubbish... and invited them all.... he said it got soooo nasty, was on the verge of fisty cuffs.... never again he said, amazed....now only have Democrat friends over at one time... and Republican friends over another....

gotta say... this really shocked the hell out of me too....

seems like people need to get a grip, who define themselves and their friendships by their politics....how narrow they end up... as we've seen here...

If you don't mix with people of different politics, religions, races, opinions etc etc... how do you ever expect to expand and grow as a person....

Syd...People here in the U.S. have become just plain irrational...borderline loony...when it comes to politics anymore...and it changes from election to election...week to week...day to day...minute to minute...and half the time they don't have a clue about what they claim to know...the other half they spend voting for all the wrong reasons. It's sad really and it's why this country is headed down the drain...you can almost hear the giant flushing sound.

Ace, there was no hateful rhetoric and nobody was judging anybody.  The whole thing was/is a bit of tongue-in-cheek and not intended to offend anyone.  In fact, not that I know Sarah Palin personally or anything, but I don't think she'd be so thick skinned and that she might even have a bit of a giggle about it herself.

Ace, like everyone else has suggested, lighten up and try to see the funny side.  No harm was intended and none should be read into it, okay?

Uvah, the only "too much" in the image is that you might be distributing/using an image to which you don't have rights.... hence the requirement to obscure 25-30% of the image making it impossible to reproduce from what you post. 

If the image is yours you may distribute it as you see fit providing it fills COPPA, etc. regulations.

My opinion (for what it's worth): I believe starkers' original post was meant in humor only, so folks should just go on being WC'ers... a very diverse community and give each other leeway and laugh at the absurd in life.

Hmmmm, I recall when Maggie Thatcher was PM over in the UK.  Now she really got my heart pumping and my juices flowing.  Thing is, she only did it when she was in power.  As soon as she got booted from office and was an ordinary civvy again, well she just didn't do it for me.  Probably had something to do with my fetish/fantasy to be spanked by powerful women.
