a little windowblinds poll

Thursday, February 7, 2002 by grayhaze | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

here's a couple of questions for you. who here uses smartbuttons in windowblinds, or even knows what they are? also, does anyone actually use a vertical taskbar in windows xp? i'm never really sure whether it's worth spending the extra time on adding these things to my skins.

roll up snaps the bottom frame right below the titlebar, basically rolls up the window to the top. Some people find it useful, I don't use it much, but every time I do a new skin there are people asking for it.

i love the smart buttons. one of the reasons i have stuck with your skins consistantly.

I wish more skin authors would use them

If i could figure out this damn skin studio, i would use them as well.

i guess mostly i just don't include smartbutton support because, aside from URL shortcuts, i already include all the features like roll-ups and always-on-top as standard buttons. maybe one day when someone shows me the point of having the same URL shortcut on every single window, i might just start to use them...

I think you should, it would allowed people to disable some buttons they don't want.

that's why i include at least three different versions of each skin. if someone doesn't want the extra functionality of rollup and a.o.t, they can just use the 'simple' version of the skin. i guess in theory smart buttons are a good idea, but in my opinion until there are a lot more windowblinds plugins, there's really not much use for them other than as a curiosity.

Thanks Davad70
I understand now, this button is very useful for Mac users, they dont have taskbar, so they use it a lot, but I think it is not so useful for the Windows, the minimize button is better!

I use rollup all the time. It's my favorite Windowblinds feature. In fact, the most useful new feature in WB3.x is the ability to change the right-click function so I can use skins by people that don't make right-click do the rollup (I used to go in and edit the UIS to get this).

I use the always on top feature often. In fact, it is what sold me on WB in the first place. Why MS didn't include it in the first place is beyond me. Smartbuttons....Don't understand them and have never used them. Is there documentation on how to use them?

theoretically you can do smartbuttons in skinstudio, but i hit skinstudio smart buttons and bounced, hard

in a little while i am planning on posting a snippit of UIS 'code' that will add a smart button to a skin. this should show up in the "help with object bar 2" thread. if you have followed this thread pair, then you would understand why
