I can crash XP

Wednesday, January 16, 2002 by Jafo | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Oh, well....it had to happen...
I could knock 2000 over once or twice a day, and that was 'supposed' to be stable, and now I have XP popping up a 'blue screen' when I try to turn it off.

But I have its measure....I'll simply leave it on.......cos it doesn't crash while it's on, only when it's off...

Lancer: when are YOU going to get OSX?, because maybe if you got it, we might be able to take you seriously when you are extolling it's (apparent) virtues.

Crae...I've had the odd freeze or two and been able to get out of it....only with XP, not with 2K....so I'm thinking that protected memory processes are handled more effectively in XP than in the others....certainly if it happened in 9x the best cure was a Magnum 44 to its temple...

I've never crashed XP. Even before I upgraded my memory (it was 64mb) it never crashed!

The freezes I encounter (on NT4 and 98) are of the "Hi, I'm your mouse cursor and I refuse to move" kind. When that happenes, not even Ctrl-Alt-Del can save you. The machine's totally stuck then and the only remedy is a manual reboot (flick power off and on).

Now I've branched out to the hardware-fragging category...
Just shorted out a friend's CD-rom and pickled his motherboard...oh what joy...
1 new board and 1 new CD-rom and we're almost back in action again....

Well...Rod hasn't beaten me to a pulp....[yet]....he's twice my size....
I got his system back up and running again....only casualties were the MoBo and the CD-Rom....and a few hours or ten of re-installing and re-configuring....
He's happy now....fragging Max Payne instead...
