I can crash XP

Oh, well....it had to happen...
I could knock 2000 over once or twice a day, and that was 'supposed' to be stable, and now I have XP popping up a 'blue screen' when I try to turn it off.

But I have its measure....I'll simply leave it on.......cos it doesn't crash while it's on, only when it's off...

I can crash Explorer, but I haven't managed to take XP down. Ofcourse, I've been gentle to it. Rough treatment will follow.

So what did you do?

I've had XP for a week now and no crashes yet!!
Gotta reinstall in a few mins though, due to massiv virus attack!!!!

It's the usual problem...if I knew exactly what I did wrong, I wouldn't have done it...
Beta testing software for people doesn't help, of course....that was the first problem....My virus checker started popping up error codes, then later label.dll [a LiteSTEP module] started to go ga-ga....for some obscure reason best known to itself, but the finally ignominious insult was the mini-dumps occuring when I just wanted to turn the silly thing off...
I'll do an upgrade install over it some time and see if it will get its act together again....

Since I got XP, Photoshop crashes regularly! You can guess how much I enjoy THAT!!

Well I got that memoryt dump blue screen a few times too. But mainly recently when I was playing Max Payne against the minimum system requirements (req: 700 Mz w/ video card of 16 M -- I got a 333 with a 8 M video card). So anyway I figured I was asking for trouble... but still, I manged to play the whole game anyway and only crashing about 5 or 6 times.

i seem to be great at crashing systems. and i must say that while XP is crashable it does so with much dignity and aplomb (i looked that one up in the dictionary to be sure, it means "poise") teeheehee

Two systems here running XP. The system with the clean install never crashes. It is also the weaker system. The system that was upgraded crashes fairly often. I don't even get a blue screen. It just reboots. I have been too lazy to reinstall.

Griffinme, have you disabled the option that reboots the machine automatically after every error? My buddy's system was rebooting for no reason, when we called for support he found out they have that option in XP.

Well, I'm really envious. My husband won't let me upgrade to XP yet since we just got ME last year. So, all I can do is crash ME. Would love to be able to crash XP though. Now I know I'm missing out on all the fun.

i'm running xp pro and i have not yet had the blue screen and i mean yet but one time just after i installed my camera i went into yahoo chat and when i clicked on the camera to enable it my computer re-booted does that count as a crash hum i wonder.but you know the only time i ever had the blue screen is when i was running ME.

If you check your "services" configuration (dig deep), you'll find that each service has individual error handling, meaning some are set to reboot your machine when they mess up.

I've been running XP Pro since the preview in the summer and everything has been great.... Till release day and XP Pro crashed my wallet 199.00 times 2 Ouch. Seriously, I've managed to crash explorer a couple of times but it pops right back up on it's own which is something that I like. I haven't managed to get a Blue screen yet though I like the color blue...

ok lets say your surfing and all od a sudden the screen freezes is there a way to un-freez it .

Deadman...if your keyboard is still active/responding, try Ctrl-Shift-Esc and pop up the task manager and kill the process or proggy...
