I think this will only undermine the legitimacy TGT Soft wishes styles xp to achieve.
Maybe the best way to stop the rips would be for the designer to do there own ports. It's bad that an artist would have to do that. But it would definetly point out to the unknowing who the true designer is. They could even tell people this is my work, but it's much better with WB.

'Lost Souls' by Nuvem has already been ripped and I'm in the midst of a polite discussion with the site owner regarding his culpability...

It's a hack for a hack. Ripping skins for a hacked dll. Sounds about right to me. No shock there.

So, you think that the artists should all port their skins to Style XP just so somebody won't rip them? Um... what if they simply don't want to make those types of skins? Plus, you *can't* just port them because most of the skins have different buttons and features that aren't supported by msstyles. So, what you end up with is a really bad looking port. Just like the rips. They are sucky ripped versions of the original skins. I guess everyone should also make their skins into WinAmp skins so that nobody rips their artwork? Uh, no. No ripping should be permitted. You rip, the community comes after you. The artist owns their artwork, and it should only be used as they please. If Alexandrie said "no", then no part of her work should have been used even with them noting that it was "inspired" by her work. Should it be right to copy an Ansel Adams photo, only use a section of it,paste it on a background, call it a wallpaper and then claim it as your own? No. But, that is exactly what they did. An artist shouldn't have to do anything to reduce ripping. They should never have to port a skin to a format they are not confortable with. Of course, we are dealing with a different bunch, here. We aren't used to dealing with people who have no respect for copyright or intellectual property.

ps-- The mod at the iexBeta board closed the thread discussing the PreLuna port, and acknowledged it as a rip

I did start my sentence with "maybe". It was just a suggestion to make it stop. It's up to the artist to do what they feel is right. It's not my stuff, so I'm not telling anyone what they should do.
Does JavaBrain like to ask questions and then answer them? Yes.
Thanks for the big lecture. You know what? I agree with you! So how do you make the problem go away?

(I'm saying this as I'm drinking some)It wasn't meant to be a "lecture", I am just very defensive when it comes to stealing people's artwork. I am not a skin artist, but I am a stained glass artist (where people *sell* their designs for others to use) and I also went to school for fine art photography.
There is no way to make it stop, just as there is no way to make people quit shoplifting. It's the ethics of the people that are involved that make a difference.

BTW, StyleXP is technically superior to WindowBlinds. I know I probably, ne, definately, will get flamed for this post.
So much for the first amendment.

Also, I don't care about a hacked dll. Please explain exactly how it is crippled. True, it can only skin theme-aware apps, but guess what? 90% of new apps will be theme-aware. Just like the new native apps for OSX.
Some people are actually mature enough to know what stealing is.

And you're not one of them. You're not defending your right to free speech, you're trying to justify theft.

WOW so recolored and stretch things can put you as the skin new skin author?
If you don't like Windowblinds, why are you using it to convert skins from other authors? Just create yours pixels by pixels.
wonder who is not mature here

And if your precious style xp is so great then stick with it and make some original skins. I'll stick WindowBlinds, it's much better. And I'm not affiliated with Stardock. I'm just getting sick of the stylexp weanies who wetting themselves that they can change title bar bitmaps. Whooopie. I'll stick with what's better, safer and faster.
