WindowBlinds application compatibility issues
Tuesday, January 17, 2012 by Neil Banfield | Discussion: WindowBlinds
It has come to our attention that some people may have had issues with some apps and WB and opted not to tell anyone about it.
Obviously we would like to know about them so we can resolve the issues.
If you have had an issue with an app caused by being skinned by WB, please post the following information in this thread:
1) The app name
2) The OS you are using
3) The theme you are using
4) The problem you have encountered
5) If you did report it to support a ticket number would help.
If the issue is visual a screenshot would help and where the app is more unusual we would like to know where we may be able to obtain a trial or demo version of it from.
Please note that we are not looking for bug reports on making skins here. This is specifically for application issues.

RedneckDude: Thats a bug in the SKS and IP installers.
I have passed it over to the right person so it can be resolved.

Hooray! Is there a WB update in the store then?
I suspected Yahoo, as the newest version made major changes, tabbed chat windows being one of them.
Not yet no. A post saying it is up will appear on the forums when it is up.
This, IMHO, is support at it's finest. Thanks Neil!

1) KVIrc (found at http://www.kvirc.net/)
2) Windows 7 64-bit
3) Sublime in the screenshot, but it seems to break on any skin
4) My scrollbars have disappeared. The one on the far right (for the nick list) has been replaced by a black bar, the one slightly left of it (for scrolling through the actual channel text) is replaced by whatever was in the area before (if I drag it around it "smears", if you know what I mean)
Screenshot: (the normal locations of scrollbars have been circled in red)

SiriusLives: I cannot make any promises with that app. It uses the very flawed (theme support wise) QT toolkit.

Having looked into the KVirc app, I have resolved the problem with the scrollbar and some controls vanishing on mouseover for the next WB update.
There are still some issues, but they relate to the framework that app uses and not issues with WindowBlinds. These issues are usually it using the wrong text colour for the various states of controls.

It doesn't work well with Alcohol 100%. The menu doesn't work to say the least. I have to go to Windowblinds' setting to take care of this (Easy Fix) though I'd rather I wouldn't have to.

Alcohol 120% does appear to look better with the "I want WindowBlinds to use Vista UI guidelines when skinning menus" enabled. The menus appeared to work fine though other than the text could have slight edges to it depending on the skin. If you are having different issues with that then please say which OS it was on and the version of the app and a screenshot if it would help.
I have modified WB to force the Vista guidelines for menus setting on that application.
There will still be a few issues with their menus due to bugs at their end. The menu selection image is painted OVER the icons rather than under and they appear to have assumed the selected menu item shares the same colour as the normal menu item. This is a somewhat common error in applications that opt to paint their own menus.

Aida64.
Button is displayed in the middle of the titlebar even though there isn't supposed to be one.

roflmfaoo: I initially thought this was a skin bug, but having downloaded the app it appears it is the app itself.
It adds a button to the titlebar, but their code doesn't work for Windows Aero when the DWM is on whcih is why you do not see it in your screenshot of Aero. WindowBlinds is allowing this (I guess that makes us more compatible...) and so the button gets painted.
If you kill the dwm service you will notice the button appears on the titlebar with Aero without the DWM too and likewise in Windows Classic.
Unfortunately they are using the toolwindow close button image which looks pretty odd. It seems the button is designed to make the window minimize to the system tray.

1) Media Monkey 4
2) Windows 7 64bit
3) ANY
4) Media Monkey uses some very weird tabbing and menus in the titlebar.

Program: Tiles
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Theme: Fearomone
Problem: I can not get the fearomone skin to install in Tiles nor can i change the skin in Tiles. I have uninstalled this program completely and re-installed this application and still no luck. I have no option to change the skin in my configuration window for Tiles. I do not know if this is because i am using the free version or not.

Sensui_Akamichi
This forum post is for issues relating to WindowBlinds and not tiles. You should post this in the Stardock Support General section.
Reply #35 Sunday, January 22, 2012 4:41 PM
Sensui: The free version does not support third party skins. To use skins you would need to purchase the Tiles bundle or the Third Party Skin feature from the Add Features page in the Config UI.

When i click the button while windowblinds is active it doesn't do anything. But it's no real hassle i can just force aero when i use it (which isn't very often).
Thank you Neil ![]()

c242: MediaMonkey has it's own skinning, is that happening with it turned on or off?
Scratch that, seems to happen either way. Looks like UIS0 skins seems OK, but I haven't tried more than a couple.
Reply #38 Monday, January 23, 2012 12:28 PM
At the moment I use MM skinning with an exclusion in WB. Undesired, but that works. Yes, either way.

Can You please consider an interim update ASAP so that this drama stops already :

C242: That is most unfortunate given we told them we were working on it and I actually sent them a long mail last week!

While this isn't a windowblinds issue, it is a skin studio issue?
I just got rid of Impulse and am having the following problem:
I just removed Impulse from my system, and installed all the apps from SD Store.
Skin Studio 7 Pro has a generic icon in the all programs menu (which I can fix), and what's worse, when I right click the shortcut, to pin to start menu, that option isn't listed.
It's there for the other SD apps, just not for SKS.
Small thing, but it should let me pin it to my start menu.
Pin to start menu, and pin to taskbar are both missing.
Windows 7 64 bit.
