Just a head's up

Greetings!
I just wanted to give all skinners fair warning that we WILL be having a GUI Championships competition in Fall of 2012.
The categories will include:
* WindowBlinds skins
* IconPackager themes
* DeskScapes animated backgrounds
* Static Desktop backgrounds (traditional windows wallpapers)
* And Possibly, depending on when Windows 8 ships, skins for a new, unannounced, Object Desktop program

Or just have a section for all 3 OS' and not cast extra points for any blind that has skinned all 3 OS'. It's the sole choice of the skinner if he/she wants to do all 3 but can submit for whichever OS they please. It doesn't mean that the skinner would get more points because they skinned all 3 OS'.

Things is, if someomne doesn't have Win7, go to Microsoft.com and download the trial, will last 3 months, time enough to enter the competition and wait for it to end. In the end not everyone will be up to enter, like you can't enter a race if you don't have the car...
...not trying to be rude here or lock people out, just saying that would be easier and more organized if there's only the latest OS in the copetition, XP visual styles are now part of the past, let the thing die.

I think there are pleny of different views for the powers to decide how it's going to be handled.
To make one last comment on the quote. I have been luckly enough in a few different sports to have actually won all 3 or 4 awards given out. however the league rules stated you can only win one. So that's another solution. Please excuse me if i'm wrong but that could cause another problem as far as prizes go and maybe no 2nd or 3rd place as they would be the other winners. So whatever it is it will be and I will be fine with it.
The way I feel about it is there will be no losers and anyone that enters should never feel like that. Just be happy there will be a GUI and think about all the wonderful WB's that will be available and you were able to enter.

i know- But in my eyes its is the only way without lowering the submissions... Dont get me wrong your idea is good.. but i doubt that someone will install the trail of windows 7 and then remove it again... firstly the work involved especially for people like me that have the motivation of a turtle when it comes to changing stuff + the hard step to remove the trial again if you cant afford it... imagine that installing 7 and going back to XP
...

I dual boot Vista/7 on my main rig and have XP on my laptop.
It's all win(dows) for me.
Similar here; tri-boot Vista(main)/Win7/XP and I have a couple virtual machine Linux distros I use occasionally. Methinks LightStar has the right idea, albeit not all skinners will be able to have sub-styles for all three. Limiting skins only for Win7 and the yet-to-be-unveiled, lack-luster Win8 might be a big mistake and even restrict some of the most talented skinners from entering the competiton.

IMO .... let the skinners do what they do best whether it be for three or two or just one OS but view them cumulatively like they're all one skin.

I think it's a difficult choice to make as some still haven't ventured out of the water with XP to 7. I personally don't have a dual/tri-boot system as I don't have XP anymore and I hate windows vista with a vengeance the amount of hassle it caused I refuse to install it.

*Any I dea on when the GUIC may be just curious how long we had to finish up our projects!
*Will it be structured as before with teams or just individual entries?

Actually, the number of categories might be determined by the number of prizes.... ID probably isn't having an easy job there. Fists are tight, these days. ![]()

Some skinners dont have win 7, have never skinned it... some users dont have XP, some dont have 7..
Seems to me, the only fair way to do it is to leave it open.. have the skinner skin what they want\can.. and let the popular vote decide who has done the best job on one , or all three.
Lets face it, skinning all three is MUCH more work.. but also leads to more opportunity to please more users.
Whatever the rule ends up being, I am fine with.. I just hate to neglect a (still) large portion of users. (XP)
