GUI Championships 2012

Just a head's up

Wednesday, January 4, 2012 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Greetings!

I just wanted to give all skinners fair warning that we WILL be having a GUI Championships competition in Fall of 2012.

The categories will include:

* WindowBlinds skins

* IconPackager themes

* DeskScapes animated backgrounds

* Static Desktop backgrounds (traditional windows wallpapers)

* And Possibly, depending on when Windows 8 ships, skins for a new, unannounced, Object Desktop program

Well since we're talking about it, what are your opinions?

i think it should be open...  you can skin one of either 3, vista, xp or w7.
What she said

That sounds fair to me also. Not everyone has made the switch to Win 7 from Vista/XP yet. No reason to exclude some great talent based on what OS they are using.

My 2 cents, anyway.

I agree with what they said . doesn't matter about OS should be a category for all 3

 I have to agree while XP allows you to do some creative things that can't be done in Vista or 7 there are plenty more technical issues in the later 2 to compensate for that.So while you can use more creativity in XP the added difficulty in Vista and Win7 kinda balances that out..I believe it all washes out !

 Skin what you use put in the requirements as to head off complaints..ie.. if you enter you could be going up against another OS but then give no addional credit for multiple OSes as that will allow more refinement and excellence in what you do skin!

In the words of one of my favorite lyricists "thats my 10 cents my 2 cents is free" LOL

Of course I would love to see a CFX category!

As a skinner submitting to the GUI Champs, I'd only skin for one OS.  Why tempt fate with missing something?

Another point is XP is two, going on three versions old.  The majority of users visiting WinCustomize are using Windows 7.

But what good does that do if the majority of the (active) skinners/artists mainly use XP?

It's no good for them with a dwindling audience.  Time to upgrade.

It would be interesting to have a separate category for each OS.  The number of submissions for each and the downloads might be surprising.

 I have to agree 100% and to add to that Stardock is a cutting edge company and when doing a GUIC it seems like putting your best foot foward is a good perspective! IMHO

The results of that would be interesting fro info purposes however.

Well personally I will be making a WB with a sub-style for XP, Vista and Win 7 as usual.  Matter of fact, the XP version is virtually done and working on the Vista sub-style already..

XP, Vista and Win 7

 I dual boot Vista/7 on my main rig and have XP on my laptop.

It's all win(dows) for me.

This will be fun!

About "being open for one of the 3 OS's", I don't think it's fair as Win7 is  lot more work to skin than the old fart XP, I think that Win7 should be the requeriment and if anyone want to make Vista and ....XP, they're open to, but more for the availability of the visual style.

This is true. Windows 7 has many sections. Why not have a category for each OS ?
