Tomorrow is 20111102

Given that one little part of the world gets its months and days arse-about....it's far more sensible to use the mathematical convention of largest units to the left to smallest on the right.... like miles, feet and inches....

...and do the date the same....year - month - day...

...in which case tomorrow is 20111102.

Just one of those [sort of] interesting thingies....

Tell me....what's the '1' on the left? Is it NOT 'millions'

Yes... but it is still only 1 million... which is smaller than 2 million.

and moving right you end up with the '7' ...units....and the '6' is the tens, etc.

Be that as it may, I still want to put the day first, then the month, etc, etc... because if I sleep in a day or three because of insomnia and need to ask somebody what day it is, I'm not gonna feel like I've lost too large a part of my life if they get it wrong and say Friday when it's only Wednesday.  Nah. I'll keep the days before the years, thank you... not so bad then if you miss one or two.

Okay, so when I wake up in the morning in what order do I look at things?

There is the calendar, the clock and looking out the window.

I will say this about that. Today is the first of something everywhere in the world. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

That's almost as bad as taking up off the floor whatever it is before you go to sleep. The first thing that touches it and that last that comes off of it. Now...how can it be both the first and the last at the same time? Wright?

Sneaks off otni corner.

The current calendar is arbirtary anyway.

As the Earth is approximately 4,500,000,000 years old,who knows what year it actually is - maybe 4,498,362,217...

In Mexico they celebrate Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Nov 2nd. I dunno the whole story but, I do know the Tequila flows...

I'm so glad you said "approximately".  As hard as it tries to pinpoint the exact time of the big bang, very loud event, whatever, the scientific community simply doesn't have the 'ruler' to measure back that far.  And even if it did, the lumps and bumps along the way [mountains and such stuff] would surely make the final calculation inaccurate.

More to the point, what makes the Gregorian Calendar any more accurate/correct that the Julien Calendar?  Each was conceived at different times in different parts of the world, so therefore could only be accurate to the closest day, month, year to that particular time and position.  Without a precise starting point, which is impossible without all the relevant data... and a long enough tape measure, neither calendar is correct.

I'm more inclined to think it's closer to 4, 499,362,217 than 4,498,362,217... and that's because they left out all the public holidays mankind enjoyed up until the advent of 24/7 trading and fuckin' modern-day bankers... who calculate interest owed by the second of EVERY day.  Yup, once we became a 24/7 society, weekends and public holidays were added to the equation, so employers could get you in on your day off... and the taxman could tax you for the full 365 days a year.

Still, irrespective of whether the calendar is accurate or not, I still dant the date to start with the day... then the month... then the year... cos then it takes that bit longer when reading my birth date, and it doesn't ruin the cellarbrations quite so soon.

Put the year first and my birthday is fucked up already.
