Question about XP

Tuesday, October 2, 2001 by desumu | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I've been thinking about getting Windows XP. I am currently running Me and have one question. If I set up a password to access my computer for windows all you have to do is hit cancel and anyone can still use my computer. Did they fix that in XP. I don't want any other users on my computer at all I used to do it through the bios but I can no longer access it with ME installed.

I don't know. That was a problem with Win 95/98/ME.

The Windows NT/2000 OS family has a real password desktop lockdown.

I imagine XP must also (at least the XP professional, XP server editions) since they are considered upgrades to NT/2000.

I'm curious if the XP Home edition does as well.

you have the option when you setup XP. you can automatically log in as a certain user, or have it set up to require a valid user/pass to get in. If you hit escape, you don't get in.

Yes, they fixed it. It is now very much like Win2k security. If you set a password, and then enter the wrong password, you cannot logon to the machine.

You can also do it in ME in the registry. Don't remember the exact key but I have always enabled this on my 95/98rmiles7721 machines. Search the MS KB, you are bound to find something.

Dethinite, I've had the same problem. I think slashes are weird magical runes that do weird magical things to text.

actually when you hit / and me together it hightlights red to show your thoughts. sort of like how you do it in chat rooms. Its a neat little feature they implemented but whenever people meantion windows 95/98/ me it does that.

Thanks for the info.
