Forget XP, I want BlackComb

Saturday, August 11, 2001 by SickPuppy | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Yeah, I've seen the video and the customisation features etc are superb/amazing, don't like the idea of paying 99c a month to have a linked calendar and stuff but that's how it's gonna be when .NET takes over

It looks a lot like the liquid/biomechanical type of affair I've mentioned at times........

Yeah. I'm not going to go for .NET. As I've said before, I'll stick to non-.NET versions of Windows.
.Net is evil. :/

I think .NET is simply a cash-flow fix. poor, poor MS is now releasing an OS, or a new version of Office every year to keep the cash coming in. With .NET, it will be constant. Look for Office and OS releases to slow down after .NET is released.

I think he meant BlackBomb which is the code name for a very distant version of windows that speaks of using SQL Server as it's filesystem, among other outstanding leaps in what we know as an OS. I think that's due out around 2004.

Well, a while back, whistler was supposed to be "Windows 2002" and Blackcomb "Windows 2003". But maybe the schedule got pushed off, but maybe not. The Blackcomb development is well under way already.
And .NET is the Microsoft new strategy to "rent" their software, not sale them. In the future, you will decide what you you make of your computer and lease software from Microsft according to what you need: specific features of Windows, with some specific featrus of Word, Excel, etc. You'll mot likely pay a monthly subscription. That's the plan. Also, .NET includes a proprietory standard based on a new programming language called C# (read C sharp). The engine is called Hailstorm and will allow you to access your data and share your data from and to any device: digital cameras, scanners, removable disks, online spaces, PDA, cellular phones, digital picture frames, even your car your ecommerce web site, and the list goes on. Of course the makers of those devices will have to be .NET compliant. And therefore the whole digital world will then on revolve around Microsoft. The DOJ haven't seen anything yet regarding antitrust... But that's not the end of it. All your information will eventually be stored on Microsoft's servers, including your calendar, you credit card information, your business contacts, etc. You will be able to give permission, for example, to an online traveling agency to automatically check your agenda for the best suitable time and automatically bill your credit card.

Anyway. All this is supposed to be revolutionary, but to me it sounds like the begining of the dark ages...

Actually, it *is* Blackcomb. It's named after the same ski resort that led to the code name Whistler. http://www.microsoft.com/PressPass/features/2001/mar01/03-05crm.asp

Here is the official .NET website. http://www.microsoft.com/net/

I would like an SQL based file system. Imagine all the things you could do with that!

I want a multiple parent file system. Or something which highlights relations between the different files, but beyond SQL (though the only SQL I've ever seen is MySQL).

blackcomb can only be bad news. if microsoft does release this no one will buy it, or very few people. so it isn't really an issue, but the though of mircosoft having my porn on their computers is just unimagenable!!!

Microsoft is getting worse every day. I really hope people will start to see what Microsoft is trying to do (e.g. control the market and the people) and eventually switch to a 3rd world OS such as Linux, or stick with old versions of Windows. How much do people really want Microsoft to know about themselves? I don't think people will put up with all this a whole lot longer. Then again there are people who still think Bill Clinton is a great man

This BlackBomb certainly is living up to it's name
the potential test for the "Herd". If any Individual chooses this, it would be due to their ignorance to a dominant reality of the society of now within its current state of mental evolution. I could percieve a probable reality of doomsayers linking such innovations to satanic relations or such prophesed symbolisms or armageddon valuated by such a touchstone. Ahh the sheep..other than that, it seems Microsoft is propagating the hacker's heaven... nothing wrong about that at all, as long as the consumers be responsible and cultivate accountability for their choices, it is who they are after all, their choices, Ignorance is not an excuse, it's a way but not an excuse of course in it's essence it's all relative.

Anyway, i'd like to know about who is responsible for the objects called "world" and "Shard". I can't seem to find a page that carries or has any link to anything that would lead me to these amazing objects, specially the matter of the How to's.. yes, I am new to this.. so, define yourselves by communicating your relative truths fellow Citizens..

oh , to comment on the message just befor my barrage of words, nothing wrong with Clinton, it's what's wrong with everyone else, does your hand punch you in the face just because you had sex with someone in your head? Does your spleen burst because you had a so called impure thoughts about someone(define purity from your understanding of it). Clinton is as normal as everyhuman with any sort of emotional urge for anything, it's the society he lives in that made the fuss over such an insignificant meaning, which if anyone has at all observed this overrated situation learn the virtue of observing the dominant perception, and to those that are individuals be warned, for you are the worst threat ever more than any terrorist country would ever hope to be, on this friggin earth. Don't be a sheep, and think.

I agree with everyone who uses the word "sheep" in this context, but I'll have to dig up a dictionary for the rest of it...
