WinCustomize Community Skinning Project
Friday, January 21, 2011 by Philly0381 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen
It has been awhile since the last Community Skinning Project.
To start off, all community skinners are eligible and encouraged to submit a WindowBlinds entry for a contest. Yes you read that correctly, a contest with the winner's WindowBlinds being used as the theme for the community project as the prize.
A few rules, only one entry per skinner and it must meet the established guidelines for uploading of a WindowBlinds. Since this is for a Community Project and we know the community still uses XP, Vista and now Windows 7 you know what we are looking for. The entries on a minimum will be skinned for Windows 7.
Volunteers are needed to judge the entries. One simple rule, if you volunteer to judge you can not submit a WB. You can however sign up to make themed skins. We need a minimum of five but no more than ten judges. I'm expecting a lot of entries.
When does the contest end, Friday the 18th of March. All entries for the contest will be uploaded to the WinCustomize WindowBlinds Gallery Library no earlier then Monday, 14 March (you really don't want to show your entry to the other skinners early now do you?)
and no later than Friday, 18 March. All entries should include 'For Community Skinning Project' in it's description. Winner will be selected on Friday, 25 March.
Once a winning theme is selected community skinners will be able to sign up for skins they wish to make and get the graphics and start skinning.
What can you make a themed skin for you ask, if it has a WinCustomize Library you can make a skin for it.
Can there be multiple skins as in two or three Wallpapers or Logons, yes, but only one per skinner.
Can a skinner sign up to do several different skins, yes.
Only one rule for themed skins, they will use the theme graphics. The only exceptions will be for Screensavers, Dreams and Wallpapers. These will though have a tie in to the theme of the project.
Please leave a reply to this thread if you will be submitting an entry in the contest.
Ahhh, what are you waiting on, the contest starts............NOW!
UPDATE:
Skinners submitting a WindowBlinds Theme are: Vampothika, k10w3, Xiandi, CountryYokel, Z71
Judges: RedneckDude, gmc2, PCPrincess, navigatsio, WebGizmos, Zubaz, DrJBHL

My sincere apologies for how that has turned out, it was never my intention for this to happen.
Two entries out of the five receive all the votes in the original voting. The vote to break the tie did not change that.
I will be doing another thread in a moment that identifies QED and Neptune as co-winners and open up two skinning projects.
At this time I would like to thank those folks that judged and those that entered WindowBlinds. All entries in my mind are winners.

Might wanna add a part two, or something, to the title of the other thread. Maybe WinCustomize Community Skinning Project - The Peripherals?

The other thing is that...yes...this was a very hard "contest" to judge...and in my opinion for what it's worth...all the entries are more than deserving of being in a community project. And the skin I actually liked the most (except for one little glitch) didn't even get in the final running.
Correct. Mirrors my views.

Philly had the worst job of all and I think should be applauded for his efforts to make this happen.
submitted skins were all good skins and from where I sit (on the sidelines) you all gained a lot of respect from me, just for participating.
did I mention....

2 Philly0381 - - - - - - - - - - YAY! Okay that's good. But seriously he did have the 'worst' job as gmc2 put it. But the real work is still to come. Collecting all the submissions and putting them together for the suites, Fun stuff but still hard work. So hats off to Philly, May his aspirin not run out.

Congratulations to the winners, well deserved. Everyone deserves a big thank you for their hard work and Congratulations to all.
Philly you can do this again in the future and now any situations that came up here can be solved and will be know right at the beginning of future contest. Did a hell of a job overall, well done.
Now if we can only get that redneck working so we can get our DX themes.

I agree entirely, thank you Philly for organising this project, I enjoyed taking part & will watch with interest as the rest of the project takes shape.
I know, from experience, organising any form of competition is not easy, even "fun" ones like this can lead to "agro". I personally feel this is a good way to pick a WindowBlind for the basis of a community theme, giving several blind skinners a chance to participate in a community project, rather than just picking one. I, for one, am looking forward to taking part in the next similarly run project, I hope you will run for us Philly.
Although I have posted this in the other thread, congratulations to the winners.

It went past deadline ... so what? If the deadline is past, does the world end?
Let me clarify my post. I was not speaking for a group. I was speaking for myself. I'm not telling anybody how to run their projects. I am simply stating that I will not volunteer for any more projects that are this loosely structured, as I find these conditions to be most annoying, and YES, this is SUPPOSE to be fun -- it's not fun for me if deadlines are meaningless and the rules are just made up along the way.
I'm not placing blame on anyone -- I'm just simply stating I will not put myself through this again.
