No, caste systems are not based on merit, they are based on the concept of "birthrights". There is no upward mobility in caste systems. You are born a certain caste, you die a certain caste.

In fact, WinCustomize is one of the few sites that isn't a caste system. On other sites, you start a powerless end user, and you stay that way. Here you have upward mobility based largely on merit.

One question: When we reach the JourneyMan "status", how can we expect to go higher than that? What are the criterias? I've read the About section and it looks to me that status beyond JourneyMan are elective (Admins of WC elect certains user to wizop, etc.) Am I right or do I need an eye check?

One may need to be careful how one poses questions about caste type systems lest this system has a "down" staircase as well as an "up" one

If you get to Journeyman, that's pretty far up there as there's only a few Journeyman out of the 30,000+ accounts on the site.

The next step is "master" and that's someone who has been around for quite awhile. I think there's only like 3 or 4 masters on the site (Dangeruss being the perfect example).

Then Wizops who can approve or reject submissions and news items.

::shakes head to clear out all the clutter from reading the other posts on the ranks of users::

I thought the whole ranking system was explained on a page somewhere... i remember reading that and understanding it completely.

BTW: Congrats, berzerka

...and then, if you just hang out on the corner long enough, you can get a title like mine...

HAHA the old apprentice - master thing again! I love these threds!!

Please note my title below, I think it makes my feelings on the subject clear without causing too much agro.

If you think you NEED a title then that's up to yourself. Me I prefer honz12, people will recognize my name for what it is. Who gives a shit what comes before it.

Brad I hear what your saying about the uploading thing, saving work, etc, but look at the title of this thred, people actually think the title means something!!!!!

Paxx: "Berzerka for President!".... lmao

Some people will enjoy the titles, some will consider them an affront to their humanity/civil rights, whatever....
and some will accept them as a mild diversion, nothing more.

Since 'J.A.F.O.' is a derogatory name for a co-pilot/navigator/observer, and I'm an Observer in F1, I'm quite happy being nothing more than 'Just Another...'....

I like the titles. They add spice. Now, some people take things too seriously, not much you can do about them.

i just think the titles are good to show how much you contribute to the site, the higher your "rank" the more you take part
