Web Hosting...

Hiya people...

I'm decided I want to upgrade my webspace over the next couple of months and get myself a real web hosting account.

Besides increasing my webspace and bandwidth, I want to play around with PHP, MySQL, CGI etc...

I have done a load of research lately and have come up with these 2 web hosting companies:

- HostRocket.com (US Company) http://www.hostrocket.com
- NetWeaver.com (UK Company) http://www.netweaver.com

Both offer really great deals... although HostRocket looks to offer the most, all for only $9.95 a month... however I AM based in the UK and not the US, although most of my traffic of US origin.

Basically has anyone out there heard anything about either of these 2 companies, past experiences, good or bad?

I would greatful for any opinons you have of them, or maybe know of another one that I should try?

Thanks in advance.

Reading documentation is your friend. "$9.95 a month" is if you buy in 2 year blocks ($238.80, in other words).

Look for good server setups. I personally am hosted on Zeus 3 on a Sparc box, which is quite nice. Ask them how they handle upgrade requests, things like that. Don't look for a host based on how much they cost, do it based on the quality of their services.

yeah... I did see that ess-vid, thanks

I plan on finding a good host and using them from now on, so if I find a really nice one there really shouldn't be any reason to change.

Now that I think about it, I will most likely buy in 1 year blocks though so I guess it comes out at $11.95 per month which is still excellent for what you get.

They host on Linux 6.22 (1.8Ghz 2GB RAM minimum) servers with excellent support and features. To be honest I can't find a single thing wrong with them apart from the fact they are in the US, and I'm in the UK.

If anyone knows of a Web hosting service that can beat their price or features I'd love to hear about it, before I make my final choice,

Thanks

They both look pretty good, but HostRocket took forever to load, which might be an omen...

hmm... I have also found: CWIHosting http://www.cwihosting.com/ which seems to offer some a pretty nice deal for $15/month.

Has anyone heard anything about them?

By the way, I'm basically looking for some PHP/MySQL Linux hosting with over 100MB webspace and over 10GB bandwidth/month, with a price under $15/month, also reliablity and support are also fairly important.

Which hosts do you guys out there use that have PHP based sites?

Thanks.

Sorry Deft, I did a bit of research on gnxonline.com and it looks like they are a little 'risky' to say the least, A search on the web and on groups.google.com showed up various users who have been totally ripped off and never refunded... so I think I'll give them a miss but thanks for mentioning them, they did seem good at first.

I have also recently found Aletia Hosting http://www.aletiahosting.com/ who seem to have a VERY good reputation and great hosting plans starting at $9.95/mo for some very impressive features.

So at the moment it's between HostRocket.com and Aletiahosting.com I think, both look really great...

I'll keep you guys posted, after all I'm sure there are quite a few of you on here who may be wanting to upgrade to some professional PHP web hosting in the future, and I'm just doing some of your early ground-work...
