book of shadows desktop widget
Tuesday, January 4, 2011 by Vampothika | Discussion: Skinning
Id like to make a book of shadows desktop widget, basically everyday the page will turn and a new spell will be present,
is this possible? and what program would I need, and is it a widget or a desktop gadget?
I will probably need help with coding too..... im looking your way eve.....![]()

ooooh.... sounds cool! You would need DesktopX for this Kitty, and if you wanted it to be a gadget you would need DX Pro. Gadgets are standalone apps that don't need DX installed, and widgets DO need DX to be installed (but not actually running). I think I'm right in this.....![]()
It all sounds a bit difficult to me, but I'm sure Eve will tell you whether it's possible........
Good Luck with it.

I've been away from DX for awhile but I would think the best way to do it would be to use a calendar object/widget as the base and simply change the graphic states.

No Desktop Gadgets is something else. You will need DX Pro, if you want Gadgets.

Sounds similar to the word-a-day widget. Definitely seems possible, as far as displaying a different spell every day and animations, etc.. I think the more complicated part is where you get the spells from. Are you pulling them from a website, or writing them up yourself?

Could work like the "Wanda" widget in Winstep. Each time it's clicked it gives a different "answer".
Here's a Codex of Wordpress Widgets: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Widgets
Or, I went searching and found a verse-o-matic type of plug-in.... looks adaptable... hope it works for you.

Otherwise, you'll be doing this....

Paid a visit to this thread. Found my nic inserted in comment #3 dated 2004. I left a note to have it deleted.

Your name was shown because the poster wrote "/ME" like we do on IRC and coding replaced it by the name of the registered people viewing the page. I Edited it to delete the "/".

I was just poking around the javascript for the above referenced widgit. It's really well done for what it does. Simple, efficient. I've forgotten how much I love DX and what it can/could do.
