WinCustomize Subscriptions are a Rip off
Monday, December 13, 2010 by Carl | Discussion: Community
So, not only do people have to BUY the software for object desktop, but, there is a subscription fee to pay in order to be able to download ANY themes, cursors, icon packages etc.
What a god damn mother f***ing rip off.

Both WB and IP come with some skins/themes/etc to start you off with. Getting more doesn't require a subscription to here. I've been a ODNT subber for a while now and have snagged a few skins here and there. But never once had I hit the cap or limit or anything that would say I need a WinCustomize sub in order to snag more. Even if I were to hit that ceiling, it's no big deal. It's a small wait and I snag what I missed the next day.
I think yer just griping over nothing since WinCustomize has so much stuff to host. Free can only get you so much until you hit that limit.
But do consider what you're implying and accusing. Had WB and IP both require subscription to WinCustomize, neither apps would have had the kind of success they do now.

Carl:
1. OD Subscriptions don't pay for WC maintenance. For that reason Frogboy changed the motif of the current site to be more sales oriented, but a separate Subscription to WC and OD, etc. has been the rule for quite some time.
2. WC isn't the only site you can download icons and WB's from. dA is another, w/o a download limit. SDN, SA2, customize.org, Skinnalicious....etc. are others.
3.
Is absolutely correct.

How about buying Subscription to WC? If there's real hardship, this thread might help: LINK

I usually look at the posters Profile and Wincustomize pages in these types of threads just to get an idea of who is posting. Interesting that the information doesn't match up between them. Maybe an error or may be this isn't Carl. ![]()

[quote]You have a download limit and once you reach it you cant download anymore without a subscription[quote]
... not really the download limit is not "daily" sensitive (if I well remember it's monthly) aw it's "browser sensitive", just use different browsers to reset the limit or ...as scharchuk said ![]()

If you have a current Object Desktop subscription then you have unlimited downloads on WinCustomize.
When you purchase a new application then you get unlimited downloads for 1 year. After that, you would need to subscribe to take advantage of the skins on WinCustomize.

Like Philly0381, I wonder if the member Carl (since 2006) is really making these posts. It seems like in 3 or 4 years these concerns would have been ironed out, regardless if they are valid or not.

Carl -
Did you purchase WindowBlinds under a different login ID (email) than the one you use to login here and in Impulse? If you did then all you may need to do is combine the accounts so that the purchase(s) will show under your Stardock.net ID. You can do so here - https://www.stardock.com/support/registrations/ .
If your purchase was over 1 year ago then you would need to purchase an update which will give you free updates for 1 year and unlimited downloads for that time period.

I would assume since you are buying through Impulse or the Impulse site, and that Impulse requirements are listed - that it is safe to say Impulse is needed.
On non-Impulse sites it is listed: https://www.stardock.com/products/iconpackager/
