Wincustomize suggestions
Wednesday, July 18, 2001 by Alexandrie | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Does not mean we will do it, but maybe if we like the idea we'll do.
What I would like to have is a theme section to skin WinCustomze and be able to track the number of person using the theme. What do you think about it?
now what's your suggestions?

1. Create an "official" moderated (and I insist on moderated) channel on IRC. That would let artists have instant interactivity between them and increase the sense of community.
2. Create a brief one-page-only monthly or weekly registration-based newsletter covering topics like new stuff, design techniques, etc. and which would serve as an incentive to attract people to the site.
3. Have regular contributors/columnists that would offer magazine-like in-depth articles on whatever subject (thightly integrated with the newsletter concept which should direct subscribers to the corresponding article on the site)
4. Create regularely a variaty of contests with prizes, if possible. People love contests.
Of course, each of these suggestions would need to be developped further but for now I think this gives a good starting point for discussions

- Expand the Author Info section a little with some extra information like: # of skins you've rated, # of forum posts, submissions etc...
- Move the authors submissions so they are shown in the profile like skinz.org used to do it and not on a separate page.
- Have a Random link to take you to a random skin/wallpaper if your feeling lucky or adventurous

- Have a thumbnail of the DD and DS over at deviantART, and a thumbnail of the featured skins over at LOS and SkinBase.org, it would probably have to be downloaded locally every 24hrs and loaded from the WC server - as not to steal any bandwidth.
- Hold a contest every few months with a certain theme, or for a random skins category.
- Make the skins for the site easier to change (without going into your profile) with a drop-down combo box or something... you could maybe put it up near where it says 'Welcome [yourname]'
- The ability to edit your posts would be kind of handy too.
- Also an option to set the 'rating limit' on the skins when your do a Search, so that you can specifically limit the quality (i.e. see EVERYTHING or see only the best (9-10)
Hope these help

I know some people will have a problem with this, but I think it could work, and would be really cool if it did.
This is how it works:
If a skin gets over 5 comments AND has a user rating of 9 or 10 voted for by 10 or more people, then the skins becomes 'Elite' and is shown in a special section on the site, this can apply to any skin/wallpaper.
Then... when your browsing the elite section you know that at least 10 other users (often with different tastes) thought these skins were worth a 9 or a 10... so you can be pretty sure that it's going to be stacked with ultra high-quality skins and wallpapers.
It's just an idea... of course, could work... and remember I just picked those numbers out of my head, the admins would have to think a little about what would constitute a 'Elite' skin.
