I recieved a message alerting me about this...

I really don't know how to proceed, since the person gave the credits in the skin's description, but never asked for my persmission and also changed my original graphics (erasing the skins real name of the titlebar).
I remember that last year, someone made a rip's list at skinz org and all the ripped skins were banished from the damn winamp.com site.
It seems that this kind of sucking things will never ands there.

Today I recieved another e-mail from Steve Gedikian (from Nullsoft).
He told me that winamp.com will just be able to remove the ripped skin on next thursday, because he says that the site just can be updated once a week.
I share my work, trying to make people happy, not to be offended.
I don't want to play the victim, making this case even bigger, giving the ripper's skin it's 15 minutes of fame (the skin is making now, around 600 dll per hour). So I'de like to abstain to make more coments here, untill the issue be closed.
Once again...thank all, my friends, for your wonderful suport.
One lesson I'm taking from this. From now on, as an WC admin, I'll be even more rigorous on rip cases.
Buzz: Thank you for the URL request, but I don't have a link, for the original Sputnik skin on winamp.com yet, since that I uploaded it, but the skin was not posted yet.

"I have no interest in skinning,to become a skinner or any such thing,suffice to say it does not hold my interest one little bit.I uploaded that skin to Winamp out of boredom, I had 10 minutes to kill at work and the rest is history.
Yes Treetog is probably a nice person,yes he is a talented artist and I have no qualms with him at all,but the fact of the matter is, the way this whole situation has been handled is extremely childish,and it's starting to get annoying(but also slightly amusing)
I have reacted in the manner that I have out of sheer stubborness,because you and others got my back up.
Now as you can tell,the tone of this email is different to the previous ones simply because in your previous email you treated me with respect,so I am returning that gesture.
I will make you a deal,when 'Spunkit' goes past 25,000 downloads(it's on 21,000 now) I will remove it from Winamp,OK??

Before I say anything else, let me get this out of the way: treetog, you should seriouslly consider legal action. The fact that you've made your work available for free does not in any way lessen your right to control over your work.
This is unbelievable... I registered a WC account just so I could reply to this.
Whoever this ripper is, he/she/it is the proverbial net troll. Let's look at the signs:
- When confronted, his first insult will invariably be directed towards his opponent's sexual orientation.
- When popular opinion turns against him, he'll try to save face by deeming the whole affair "boring" and/or "amusing".
- He'll also belittle the community that's confronted him.

The internet, and my love for skinning and theming has given me the chance to meet some wonderful and talented people, and to inter-relate with them as friends and equals. I have met people whom I can honestly say that I both love, admire, and respect.

Nullsoft needs to lift its game.
It needs to show serious intent to respect the people who provide their popularity as a skinnable program.
Nullsoft must put in place the ability to amend its database as soon as a skin theft is reported.
Nullsoft must acknowledge that 'ripping' is indeed a crime.
It is a crime against the original author's name and reputation.
The propagation of this crime is in fact the equivalent of what has been shown to be the case with Napster.
By hosting unlawful copies of another's property, they, too, are guilty of theft of copyright.
It is simply not sufficient, nor is it appropriate, that they palm it off as...OK, when we next update our database we shall fix it.
Meanwhile, 25000-odd copies of stolen artwork are floating around the world like festering maggots....an insult to the original owner of the work.
If I lived in this person's home country, England, I believe, I'd be hunting her down to confront her face-to-face, with the accusation of theft.
Yes, I'm pissed.

Just get me an address and this person won't have a computer within 1 day! I know some REALLY naughty people who would take pleasure in removing EVERYTHING from this persons abode, and I mean EVERYTHING.
My job brings me in contact with some of the biggest low-lifes around, but sometimes they can be useful...........
I too am dismayed at all this, it's just the total lack of respect and good manners that annoys me the most. I blame their parents, my children will NOT grow up with this kind of attitude.
