In Memory of Elbert S. Dillard
Goodbye For Now, Sweet Brother

Hey guys and gals. It is with a heavy heart that I wish to post a short memorial to my brother. In remembrance of all the great times we had during his short life.
Just let me say that I lost a good friend yesterday with the passing of my older brother. We call him Buddy. He was a few years older than me, and he was always the guy that took me fishing when I was a kid. Gave me first beer...lol. And subsequent hangover...lol.
Later in life, when I was in a bad place in my own life, he agreed to raise my first born son for me, when I wasn't the man I needed to be in order to raise him well. And he did just that, and did a fine job. Then, when things were better, he moved closer to me so I could spend more time with my son.
These are just a few things on my mind tonight as I prepare for his funeral and cremation tomorrow. I will miss him, but he was in poor health and had been for years. A long list of ailments and a few car wrecks take their tolls on a body.
He finally passed the morning of 8-1-2010 of heart failure. He had gotten up that morning, went to the medicine cabinet to take his meds. He was talking to his family about a short road trip later that day. He went into his bedroom to dress, and never came out. When his wife and my son realized he hadn't come out, they went to check and he had fallen on the bed and wasn't breathing. My son administered CPR to no avail. 911 was called, then I was called.
When I got there, the EMTs had just arrived and they took him to the hospital and pronounced him deceased.
So, for now, I will be short a brother and a friend. But someday..............
I love and miss you, Buddy.

It's hard to ask more of someone than what your brother did for you, Jim,; you're very fortunate to have had someone actually come up with the goods on such a scale. I'd be forever grateful, and I can see how you would miss him.

Jim, I'm so saddened by this temporary parting....I agree, someday you'll be together again in a far better place....
I'm also saddened that this post didn't catch my eye. I certainly would have commented and sent you my heartfelt condolences sooner if I had. Jim, he sounds like a wonderful person, and I'm gladdened by the really good relationship it appears that you had with him and through him with your son.
I pray you have an easy grieving, friend. Remember the good and thank G-d for him. I'm sure his passing was gentle and easy...just like falling asleep.
Peace be unto you, old friend....I'll be talking with you later on....love ya, bud.
The old doc.

what an incredible gift to you, to raise your child... he must have been some man... and some brother... you've both shared something extra special which makes it even harder to lose him.... but even luckier to have had him in your life...
no goodbyes.... just good memories..

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I hesitated to post this because I really am not looking for attention, I know it could look that way. I was here preparing a CD in his honor, to be used at the service, and it was on my heart to honor him in some way.
I could think of no better way to do that than to share this picture, memory, with some of my closest friends here at my second home. Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers, I will need them.
Seems that there was never a photo of him, his wife, and our son all together, so I broke out the old photoshop and came up with this. Not a pro job, but I think it's ok for a CD cover. This big version shows some flaws in my work, but smalled down, not noticable.
My family will all be here today, we rednecks have large families, so I will stay on this page probably, so family members can read what you guys have said about it.It may just help one or two of them to deal with our woes.
Again, thanks to a great bunch of friends! You are my extended family!
