I worked on this for 2 days and I have to say, it is my best work to date. the pic is only a 640 so it is unable to be used as a wallpaper.
Anyhow, what you all think...When I submited it I attached this story with it as well,
It is 3038 and the planet Latvinious has met inevitable destruction. Latvinious has evacuated 3 years prior to the cataclysmic disaster which is currently taking place at this exact moment of time. The light source you see is a the birth of a star, which won’t come into full existence for another 1,230,7540 years. Latvniniousan’s new that one distant day, in the unrecognizable future, this beautiful planet would meet its’ conclusion. Never did they expect it to come so soon. One brave soul, who is unafraid to come face to face with his creator, opened his Photoshop 7, pulled out his Wacom tablet and drew the planet and its’ new found friend, RAGE.

'Fixing it' may be a career path. I think you need to look at NASA's website or similar for 'inspiration'. This wall will need a considerable amount of 'fixing' before it is likely to be accepted here...

I agree here with Jafo.
And:
Those 4 starsystems are too much alike, make 4 different ones rather than copy and paste.
Make sure you have ONE lightsource on your main item, the globe, including those rings. Saturate the rings towards the back (That is make the colour colder). Saturate the middle of the globe, that is make those colours warmer, so that you improve the depth.
Get rid of all those shiny red and white dots, grey would be much better.
Get rid of the white circle around the small globe, work on the reality of that globe including the shade on the main globe. I probably can think of more things, but this will make it look a lot better if you try.
And Naitsirch, as much as I defended you, because you were pretty cool about how you handled the comments, it is not necessary to start yelling to jafo, although his childish statement went too far for me too. Good criticism OK, but calling names BLAH, even if a moderator does it I think BLAH too.

My 'childish' statement...was not in itself 'childish'. Had there been computers 35 years ago I, too may have created a scene similar to this one.
There is naive art.....simple art.....primitive art....and art created by [or for] children.
'Childish' or 'child-like' is a simple adjective, that is all.

Hi Jafo Well, in that case, there have been a whole lot of adult painters who made childish art (take a look at the cobra group, or Herman Brood, which is one of my favourites), and in itself it wouldn't worry me. But, to each his opinion

Hmm, I'll probably echo what some have said but ...
With the planet that close, it needs to be off center, even slightly off the screen would be okay. The 4 corner pieces only instill a sense of being contrived. The little planet?/asteroid? doesn't blend into the planet because of being too detailed for it's immediate surroundings. The star at birth appears too close to the planet. It should appear to be very far away.
Of course, this is all just my opinion.
Jafo has a good idea in looking at some real space shots to get a sense of depth and perspective. And while sometimes he may seem a little irreverent, in a satirical sense, he does give good advice. He has certainly done so for me. Try not to take it personally and he will help you.

Damn, you guys need to take a breather.
All artwork has both good and bad points. Now with this image, if indeed it was meant to look real, needs work, but that does not mean its bad. I think the problem here is the human factor, our incesent need for symetry. If you look at this image, its just riddled with it. Now for many pictures this is the way to go, but for realism, particulary for the natural world, this is a no no.
Most of the elements look real enough, but the planet, it just seems lacking - almost like it was painted.
As for what Styl had to say
It does look like the nebulas and starfield were created using the flamingpear plugin, which is fine - they look good, but I have to wonder(if this is true) why a plugin wasn't used for the planet? I think this would add more realism to both the planet and the asteroid.
Now for the rings - what about them - I think I would have to stick with the symetry bug. Assuming there were three rings around a planet, I doubt they would assume orbits that have the same angles and rotating completely on center to the planets axis. Most objects in space take eliptical orbits.
But I have been creating artwork for a long time and all I have to say on that subject is, space scenes ROCK! I still don't get tired of them. Someone may say they are childish, but the truth is when you look into space, how can you not feel like a child compared to the age of the universe and the lack of knowledge we possess of it!
Keep working on it - the elements to making the image true, is there!

well i like he earth as a graphic but the red clouds around it look likehmm dont know,and the stars at the backround look like there from a DOS game! and the story dosnt have any thing to do with it

and I use www.domainlx.com which is cool and free but not always reliable...They say unlimited bandwidth but HAAAAAAAA, yea right...you get what you pay for and hey this was free so what can I say...
