The Natural Desktop

Monday, September 13, 2004 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Imagine a desktop where your wallpaper was based not just on the time of day but the time of year.  Imagine being able to have background sounds that are based on the current weather and time of day? Birds singing, Cicadads humming, Crickets chirping, and much more all based on what time of day it is.

This and much more is what the new Natural Desktop from Stardock does. A team up with the code developed by Stardock, the wallpapers created by Digital Blasphemy, Widget work by Tiggz, and the sounds by famous composer, Mason Fischer.

With options to control your location, sounds, and more, the Natural Desktop is perfect for those of you (us) that are stuck working in an office environment all day who miss the sounds and visuals of summer.

Visit http://www.naturaldesktop.com to get it.

Needs the ability to customize! That is what stardock is all about!

Can't import into Desktop X to customize.

Needs a way to move the control unit. Now covers up my clock and can't move it.

Needs a way to adjust the sound volume. If I turn up my volume to hear the sounds then my other windows sounds are too loud.

Would be nice if we could change the wallpaper to our own set.

Otherwise I like it!

We do plan to do free updates to it based on feedback.  I think as it stands, it's pretty darn cool, one of the coolest things I've worked on. But I'm totally with you in being able to think of the possibilities of something like this.

When I get a chance I'll do a video.

Xero and others: There was a minor update between the sneak peek and the final. But we are working on a 1.1 version for next month that I would wait for that has more goodies in there.

I am still waiting on some feedabck as to why my wallpapers don't change and no sound. I had emailed Martin and he said he was working on the prob and to stay tuned. That was before the weekend. What should I do next?

What are the odds of me getting a copy of this just because I'm a swell guy?

You really need to support proxy servers for this. I am behind a firewall and the service can't update the weather.

Is this thing smart enough to know that there are only 2 seasons in Costa Rica? Wet and Dry? I really wouldn't want to see falling leaves and snow on my desktop. Also I really don't need to be hearing any more bugs.

Can the walls be changed and use walls created by DB for widescreen displays. My laptop has a 17 inch widescreen display and DB is a great place for walls with me in mind. Would it make any difference if I said I currently subscribe to DB?

what are the resolutions for the wallpapers? do they go up to 1600x1200? I'd consider purchasing it if the screens were large enough, as soon as they get stretched its an automatic no way
