Fun with IconPackager

IconPackager doesn't always get a lot of mention. But really it should. It is one of the most basic pieces of Windows customization software out there.

You want to change your icons? There is no better supported, more featured, more popular way to do it than with IconPackager.

And let's face it, lots of Windows icons really are awful. And here on WinCustomize, there are thousands and thousands of icons already in IconPackager format ready to be applied to let you tweak your system to the way you want it.

icon packager format = zip with a really generic config file.

im sure nobody has prior art for the name variable

very nice article by the way. I didn't know that the icon tab wasn't part of windows. I have had iconpackager long enough that I never noticed

Ender, your knowledge on IconPackager is lacking.


There is nothing generic about an IconPackager .iptheme file. If it's generic then pretty much every format is "generic".


In IconPackager 2.5 the .iptheme file is encrypted.


None of which has anything to do with the article.

No one is claiming anything about .ip's (or anything to do with formats in this discussion). .ip files are zip files renamed.  But .iptheme files are not generic config files. For someone who claimed elsewhere to be a computer expert you of all people should know that.

i can`t see the icon tab with IP 2.5. Everything was fine with 2.12 but when i installed 2.5 i lost my icon tab
and i DO have it checked in the settings! Any ideas how to fix this?

Well, I learned something. I didn't know you could change the program icons. That's great! 
btw Brad, you may want to correct one tiny thing... where it says [Right click on a file in Windows from Explorer and you will see a new tab "icon"]  When I right click on a file, I get a menu.

The Icon tab is visable, on all file Icons, except sortcuts, which have there own change Icon button, and Folders which in XP have there own cutomize tab.

I've been using "Icon Packager" since the days when it was "Icon Customizer" (and still have that archived on a CD somewhere). It just keeps getting better and better.

i had it but the icons wouldnt show up when it came to changing the regular folders.
