The Road to Longhorn

Longhorn is the code-name to the next major version of Windows. It won't be out anytime soon, 2005 best case scenario.
But it is going to be very exciting when it comes. Especially for the customization community. When Whistler was being developed, Microsoft was only partially aware of just how powerful customization could be as an advantage for Windows. Longhorn, by contrast, is being designed with incredible customization power. The new composited graphics engine will allow for customization without a visual performance hit because of tight integration with Direct3D.

do you know how much CPU and RAM power it takes... Allrady WIn XP is take an hugde amout of it!!!!
Pepol that buy's win 2005 are total idiot!!! Basiclly they took win XP, then they appered in front of you the "hidden" options of win XP and 2000, and they made so you can have accual 3D stuff on the desktop! DISGUSTING!!!!!
serouslly how gep's a skin for over 2 years?.... no one! then with simple well it dosen't bother anyone, and if they whant to change it, well the web is full of programs.
what's new other then the 3D stuff in win 2005? Nothing!

if you whnat real customisation go with LINUX! it was the best, it is teh best, and it will still be the best, and the best part is that it's FREE!, (if you buy it in store I suggest Suse LINUX (more expensive but comes with way more stuff, and I like the instoction manual (not only the design, but the explanations! lol)
Have windows games/programsm or even Mac stuff? downlaod and install in linux the OS emulator. (works perfeclly! I wave it!)

George, you can pretty much ingore GoodBytes comments. He's living in the past..the distant past.
For $500 I can buy a PC that has more than enough RAM to run not just XP with all the goodies on but a ton of customization software and third party apps. That Linux runs well, kind of, for end users with less RAM isn't terribly interesting when RAM is so cheap. Of course, then again, I have a job.

My laptop have 1 gb PC2100 ram, and I just bought em at 250 bucks for 2 of 512 sticks.So, if you have somewhat decent job you can certainly afford a powerful computer.

I doubt linux will be customer-friendly for a long time. I said the same nearly 10 years ago, and it's still the same, and true now. Microsoft sure knows what customers want, IMHO. For any great company, there is in least 99.9% chance of hate group forming up. I remember when there were so many anti-microsoft groups. they're dying breed now.
So what if microsoft makes mistakes sometimes? They're made from people, not angels with Bill Gates as the Creator. Humans makes mistakes. I'd like to see a human that never made one.
