WindowBlinds 4: April 8th

Tuesday, April 1, 2003 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Stardock has pushed the final release date of WindowBlinds 4 back one week so that it can go through final compatibility testing. The first release candidate should be available in the next day or so for those users who have Object Desktop.

If you want WindowBlinds 4 right now, you can get Object Desktop.

Also, the WindowBlinds 4 Media Guide has been completed. Now you can check out everything that's new in WindowBlinds 4.

Riptorian, normal stardock practice is that if you have purchased WB sufficently close to the release date of the next version, you automatically get a free update to the next version.

the windowblinds newsgroup would be a good place to check for info on this.

you could also email [email protected]

Thanks feline. I purchased it at the beginning of March. I have just read the confirmation email and it says "If you need to download the latest enhanced version or get your serial
number in the future, please visit https://www.stardock.com/support/"
so I assume by lastest enhanced version it means version 4 when that is release ?

For those not seeing the update in SDC, make sure you have the latest SDC (its at rc1 I believe). I wasn't seeing new updates for several days, upgraded my SDC (downloaded the full install as the autoselfupdate also didn't seem to be happening on the older SDC), and everything shows up now.

Are you a subscriber of OD? If not, then you can't download it yet. But if you are, then you hav to ask someone else that question.

Where is the Component Manager? What is it?

For those worrying about being eligable for WB 4.x, here's a quote from Kris Kwilas at Stardock:

Anyone who has purchased WB 3.x in 2003 gets a free
upgrade. Orders prior to January 1, 2003 will need to
purchase an upgrade ($10 I expect).

Object Desktop subscriptions with current accounts
are covered for release versions as always.

MMMmmMmMmmm . . . what are those delicious folder icons in the screenshot? And if you uninstall WB4, what is the file SYSROOT\wbsys.dll for and why can't you remove it? There's another in the installed folder but I can't remember the name.

Thanks Green I got that on the newsgroup earlier. That is good news and shows that Stardock are a responcible and trust worthy company. I was only made aware of Stardock and WindowsBlind a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon there site and then a day later bought WB 3.5. Thanks again to Kris K and anybody else who helped me.

Whether or not you have "Prerelease" selected in SD Central, you won't see version 3.99 of WB. You have to use Component Manager.

...to continue from last post.

Just tried to install the 3.99 WB version from CM, but could not. I received an error about having SD Central installed and to use it.

To sum up: Those of us with SD Central and WB 4.0 beta are without WB 4.0 beta until the final release because 1) our version has expired, 2) we cannot get the update via SD Central and 3) we can d/l, but not install, the update via CM.

I'll be sending an email to Stardock asking what can be done to resolve this issue.

sorry to disagree Tryzub but I have version 3.99c which I believe is the latest. CM was deleted from my machine one day last week.

If you are using the beta of SDC, we've changed the installers using the older CM so they won't update. There are potential path issues where people were winding up with 2 WB installations (with the second not seeing their skins) and it was just going to cause more trouble.

Why can't you get the update via SDC? It's the WindowBlinds4 component on there.

One question : Is the exclusive WC-subscriber content dependent on the final release of WB 4 ? (Hint, hint...)

I'm using version 0.92.123 of SD Central. My "Installed" column is version 3.97[b].025. My "Available" column for WB is just dashes. Going to Tools - Update Application Data does nothing to change this.

I am both an ODNT and a WC subscriber, c242, if that's what you were implying.

Nono, I was just a little penetrating because of the exclusive skin that seems to be finished but not released yet for subscribers.

Tryzub : There is a new version of SDCentral : http://storage.stardock.com/files/stardockcentralrc5.exe

You should give that a try.
