Stir The Pot

The State of The States

Thursday, March 25, 2010 by Chasbo | Discussion: Off-Topic

Well I know that I'm probably opening a can of worms here but I can't help myself.

What do you all think about The Health Care Bill?

Personally I think it doesn't go far enough. I wanted Universal Health Care. I think keeping the insurance companies in control is bad. The insurance companies should be placed under direct control of the government/people so that this thing is NOT profit motivated. Make no mistake that this system is still profit driven.

What about the death threats to the Dem Congressmen and Women? Put those wacko "Tea Party" people in jail I say. Those Glenn Beck/Fox/Sarah Palin zombies need to be dealt with harshly. I am saying the ones making death threats and throwing bricks through windows and such.

How about all those men making judgments about abortions? Hey I got a good idea: Let's let the women decide. I can't remember the last time I got pregnant. The bill removed the government funding for abortion anyway so why do those Glenn Beck/Fox/Sarah Palin people keep talking/bitching about it?

Here's another idea: Let's get the hell out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Those money pits sure don't help the so called debt now do they? Far as I can see Bin Laden is holed up in Pakistan so why the hell are we still in the wrong countries? Perhaps the cost of the health care bill could be covered by the money we are now spending killing people in the wrong places.

One final plea: Put Bush, Cheney and Rove in jail for the crimes they committed in the 8 years they were in office.

Have a nice day.

But that's how conservatives work. They don't care about deficits and debt as long as the money goes to corporations or to pay for wars (even though they do tend to keep the wars "off the books" for accounting purposes).

As opposed to how progressives work, not caring about debt or deficits as long as the government is in control.  I really can't wait until the money runs out for all your entitlements.

You Ayn Rand sycophants are such hypocrites.

That's a good one.  You Karl Marx fans are so crazy.

to hell with it. there's far too many idiots and fools in this thread trying to justify the incitement of violence. it doesn't matter which side of the debate you're on, if you try to justify violence, you're just as guilty as the person committing the violence. progressive or conservative, if you committ an act of violence, you're wrong.

I do not believe anyone is trying to justify violence.  What some are asking for is evidence it is being incited by either republican leadership or the Tea party movement.  So far, none of that has been proven or any evidence given.  For all we know, these blogs may be the work of left wing nut cases trying to taint the rights of individuals with their own actions, not the actions of those SPEAKING up against this travesty.  While that is just a supposition at this point, it has been proven to be true in the recent past.  Where basically liberals try to play the victims by inflicting threats and damages upon themselves so that opponents are then blamed.  And when I say proven, I mean in a court of law, not a blog post or even a media outlet.

Racism.  The universal all-purpose retort.  Available now for the amazing low price of just $19.95!  And if you call now, we'll double your order!  That's two full boxes of racist retorts for the price of one.  Just pay shipping & handling.

Call Now!  Operators are standing by!  No need to hurry, though, this offer will be available forever.

Damn!  That sounds so real!  I thought I heard it on MSNBC just this week.

Actually the original post is ignorant.  It was not conservatives, but republicans that did not appear to care about the debt.  Even in the Bush years, they were speaking up about the spending, but of course with the consortium of liberals and republicans, were drowned out.

Hate to burst your bubble gmc2 but President Obama has called himself a 'progressive'. Does that make him racist against himself?

didn't burst my bubble, I think of myself as a progressive (depending on my interpretation) and I'm not a racist. my dog's name is spot therefore all dogs are named spot, hmm. progress happens and I think there is good and bad about progress, can't take one without the other.

Not one talk show host has treated Obama like they did Clinton or Bush, Palin plus others.

textbook example of a freudian slip, but I think I know what you mean, I disagree. rush, fox and such others did not attack the previous administration as they have obama.

Liberals seem to be the ones most concerned about race even when race is not a factor. Indeed, they are racist. Which does not mean they hang minorities, only that they cannot see a person, only a race.

the logic of your statement escapes me. I agree with you in that a racist sees color and not the person but to blame the liberals for racism???

let me ask you this; acknowledging that racism is a two way street, do you believe that racism does or does not exist. If you believe that racism exists, then there has to be some racists to make it real. so, now can you honestly tell me that in the millions of people involved that there are no racists among them.

Well once again the politicians got what they wanted....to give you the "healthcare" they wanted to give you and to keep you all so busy arguing about race/creed or whatever that they will get what "they" want and you get the shaft. And sadly...I sometimes get caught up in this crap as well.

I mean seriously...you want health because you can't afford it...and instead you get penalized for not being able to afford it?! What has changed? As far as I can see...not only can I still not afford healthcare...but now I'll not be able to afford it with even less money. I'm sorry...but my ass hurts from all this! How is this good for anyone? Well...the ones collecting the fines will make out. Yeah...great bill!

The stuff everyone is talking about that has nothing whatsoever to do with a health bill has been around since the dawn of man...and just because a few people say it's over...it's not...but it sounds good...makes us all feel all warm and fuzzy inside and gives the illusiom of being civilized...but as long as man walks this earth this kind of crap will always creep in and plant itself firmly in your life in one way or the other. They know it and use it against you all the time and everyone just plays into it. You may not want to admit it or accept it...but here we are...again.

I would really love...just once before I die...see people really come "together" and stop this crap thats happening all around the world...to see people for once own up to the fact that this 2 party crap is so blurred that it just doesn't hold water anymore. It does nothing but cause division among everyone and nothing ever gets done..pretty the same as the people everyone bitches about...the politicians.

I'm fed up to my eyeballs with the term "political correctness" when truth be told it's all a crock. I am not a politician and have no desire to be one and I sure as hell do not want to adopt their terminology. It's as though everything about us as people has become political and the idea of just living in peace and enjoying life has taken a back seat to politics.

I for one always look forward to comments from non-Americans on American issues.
Here ya go..... a bit of tongue-in-cheek

Personally, I think Obama's bill didn't go far enough and should have covered things like government run brothels.

Why not??? One's sexual health is part of health, is it not?? So gov't run/monitored brothels would help to keep a lot of folks happy... not to mention safer from STD's...

... and if it gets passed in the States, (and it'd truly stir the pot) we'd eventually have it here in Oz as well.

Aye cap'n and what do Mrs. Starkers Say? Me thinks she be going to hog tie ye and prevent ye from sailing anytime in da near future.

Yer still a randy old sea dog.

Ye don't have ta wait for us Colonials fer ye health care. Ye just want ta ladies to not be spreading crustacians when ye visit us
.

I don't finks mrs starkers 'd be bothered if'n tha guvverment 'ad state run bordellos... 'er knows I 'aven't got enuff booty ta sniff tha garter of a lady o ' tha night.  As fer them crustashuns, crabs, lobsters, us'll 'ave sum o' them wiv curried cabbage on tha side..... aarrgghh.

On a serious note, I'm glad we have universal health care here in Oz, cos there's no way I could afford the insurance premium when I have several 'pre-existing conditions' that'd put it well out of my reach.  I mightn't get the best care there is, and it took a while to get into the system, but I have received great treatment and a highl standard of care during all my recent visits to the specialist clinics at the local hospital.

I really can't understand why so many people over there are so against/afraid of it, universal health care.  Sure governments can cock up, but geez, look at what private enterprise did to the banking sector over there.... bastards decimated it, and millions went down the gurgler as a result.  I mean, I get it that some of you don't want to pay for anyone alse's health cover, but what goes around comes around.  I paid in for years and never took anything back out while others did, but now I and dependent on that very system for the care I receive.

As I said before it is far more likely that *I* will be paying for *your* entitlements than it is for *you* to be paying for *my* entitlements. Unless of course you make more than the $180,000 per year that I make in which case I find it difficult to be very sympathetic to your crying poormouth when it comes to paying for health insurance.

That's simple Starkers...it's called brainwashing. It you tell a lie to the people long enough it becomes the truth. They already fund pointless wars in the billions but they think healthcare isn't worth it...go figure.

One reason is because the U.S. is becoming more and more of a welfare state, and it is now to the point that more people are dependent on government than people who actually bring in taxes.   The banking situation was not entirely the fault of the "private sector", just look at the government interfence that was instrmental in the failures.  Sorry, but I have no faith in the federal government to run health care.

You can add a 4th congressman to your list of "liars".

Besides Clyburn, Cleaver and Lewis now Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) has also publically stated that he and other members of the CBC were called the N-word.

From http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/88041-cbc-member-says-health-bill-protesters-called-rep-lewis-the-n-word.

"Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) said Saturday that healthcare protesters at the Capitol directed racial epithets at him and Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) as they walked outside.

Carson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus along with Lewis, told The Hill that protesters called the lawmakers the N-word."

You know like the health care industry, insurance firms, banks and like ilk. creating dissent for the sake of keeping us divided so that their crimes go un-noticed and un-punished. want to fire up an ultra-conservative, just mention abortion, it's like crack cocaine, they go nuts.

Ah yes, another liberal elists.
So first you denigrate me by saying:

I suppose you have no problem being forced by the hand of the IRS to purchase health insurance mandated by the federal government. Let me guess, you are probably someone trying to benefit from it.
And:

I really can't wait until the money runs out for all your entitlements.
And then when I indicate that I make plenty of money and therefore have no real need of entitlements for myself your response is:

Ah yes, another liberal elists.
So go ahead and pick *one* because I can't be both an elitist (I assume that's what you meant by 'elists') while at the same time be sucking at the governments tit.

I'm sure I can add plenty of congressman to the liar list.  Please show proof of their allegations.  You can't.

If you read the post, it wasn't directed at you buddy.  Try again Mr.

I cannot prove their allegations. But I have already provided links that prove they have made these allegations. Again the point is that you are calling 4 black congressman liars.

"If you read the post, it wasn't directed at you buddy. Try again Mr."

Nice try. Liar.

Yes the first one wasn't directly specifically at me but the second one most definitely was.

I couldn't begin to 'go figure that!   When billions are so easily spent on killing I find it totally ludicrous... er, abhorrent that there's so much opposition to funding life saving universal health care.  Fuck, anybody 'd think the wheels are gonna fall off US society completely... that universal health care would invoke the Antichrist and bring about Armageddon.

No one blames liberals for racism.  They simply choose to cynically use racism, even where it doesn't exist, as an all-purpose weapon when they can't win an argument on its merits or when they believe it will serve their broader agenda.  It's been such an effective political lever for them for so long, particularly with the sycophant media, they just can't let it go.  And it's perfectly OK to call them on it.

Excuse me?

From http://dorkmonger.blogspot.com/2008/11/cutting-red-tape.html.

"In the summer of 2003, leaders of the four federal agencies that oversee the banking industry gathered to highlight the Bush administration's commitment to reducing regulation. They posed for photographers behind a stack of papers wrapped in red tape. The others held garden shears. Gilleran, who succeeded Seidman as OTS director in late 2001, hefted a chain saw.The other men in the picture were identified by CalculatedRisk: John Reich (then Vice Chairman of the FDIC and later at the OTS), James McLaughlin of the American Bankers Association, Harry Doherty of America's Community Bankers, and Ken Guenther of the Independent Community Bankers of America."

Also see the Washington Post article Banking Regulator Played Advocate Over Enforcer and Krugman's (I know boo hiss) oped piece The Dilbert Strategy.

It was not "government interference that was instrumental in the failures" but a *lack* of government regulation of "casino capitalism" that caused the problem.

Well Gmc2...to truly understand how the world works you need to think on a global level. For instance how about this scenario...as it stands now our population will very soon grow to a level that our resources will not be able to sustain everyone...and the impact will be felt worldwide. What do you think the powers that be will do? It's much easier to get rid of a bunch of people than it is to grow more food...and who do you think they will get rid of? As it is now we are really straining our resources. And if you think we have border problems now...wait till the shit hits the fan. The last thing anyone will be thinking about will be healthcare.

As for your theories...they are not theories at all...they are in fact a matter of practice. Calling them "conspiracy theories" is how they get you to not pay attention to what's really happening right under your nose...and it works great. As one saying goes "It's easier for a politician to spread a lie, than for a beggar to spread the truth."

Wait....it's coming...we haven't hit bottom yet. If fact at the rate we're going we'll blow right by bottom. The economy is still falling despite what the news says...but we all know how our news is so truthful!
