DesktopX 2 PREVIEW!

Thursday, January 9, 2003 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

DesktopX 2 is now in Alpha form on Stardock's Object Desktop. It is a major step forward for desktop enhancement users over version 1.

DesktopX is a program that lets you completely alter the actual Windows environment. Or put another way, there really really are other ways to envision using your computer than having a bar on the bottom of your screen with some little pictures scattered on your desktop. DesktopX lets users create virtually any type of interface they want.

What version 2 brings to the table is making it much more accessible for casual users to get into it. DesktopX is very powerful and while version 1 isn't very difficult to use, it does require users to kind of "jump in" to things. DesktopX 2 has some cool features in it that will allow users to gradually move users into desktop customization. Check it out!

Well,
According to the web site, its an ALPHA build which is only available for download from the Component Manager.

But, it has yet to show up in the Component Manager List . . . time will tell.

DesktopX2 alphas have been on ODNT since late last year. In fact, there will be another one later tonight. The MCP has not made a public appearance yet. And its name is going to change first...

Alpha's aren't the full program, so therefore it isn't DesktopX2. It was done the same way with WindowFX2. They didn't actually hit v2, until stable release existed.

*sniff* DesktopX is all grown up now *sniff*

I abandoned DesktopX 1 long ago for the three reasons they listed in the article. However, what they have done to resolve those problems in v2 pretty much ensures I'll be a DesktopX user (when I'm not using the 3DNA Desktop of course )
