So here's the story:I am an Apple-lover (sorry windows-users) and bought recently a Mac. But I've used PCs for a long, long time; and this was a huge obstacle for my jobs ( I mean, in the school or even working with photos and pictures).Bugs, system errors, fatal errors and the message ''you have executed an illegal operation''.
Something I always noticed was the great number of Apple-based skins for all the skinned applications.So me and my friend had the idea of making this search:
OS-based skins, themes , suites and desktop replacements. How many had a Macintosh theme or Mac elements and how many had a windows theme or windows elements.
Because we have not any metodology we can not give any percentage of the results, like 50% apple 30% windows and 20% original, but we can say something like this:
Of ten OS-based works(skins, suites, etc) five were Mac-like, two had a windows inspiration and three were original.Even KDE has some Mac elements, like the icons and the toolbar wich is very similar to the OS X ''dock''.
In the internet browsers ''category'', Opera is the browser wich has more Apple-themed skins.And the less ''Appled'' browser is the NeoPlanet(I found only one Mac skin in almost 900 skins).
But what all this means?
Mean that Apple is still a reference in everything wich is related to design and easiness of use.The Microsoft Windows has a too much polluted visual and you need some pratice if you're not experienced with computers; unlike OS X, I plugged and started to use it immediatly, and the visual is perfect, very intuitive graphics with the simplicity of its design.That's why the Mac theme is one of the most used.
I am not an enemy of Microsoft and/or Bill Gates, the idea of a low cost computer and OS is very good, but I think(different, hoho) he can do a better job. The iMac is the most popular Macintosh, and what will happen to the Windows empire if Apple release a ''PC OS X''?

remain silent yavanna7! i'm making again skins for Windows becuase my Mac was crashed! 
Of course OSX is better grafically, but are too expensive for the masses. Maybe is not too expensive if it is a new computer, but if you need to update or change some pieces (my case) of your Mac, the cost is too higher

I have always owned Windows machines, but have liked and installed countless OSX type themes. Oddly enough, I went to CompUSA about a week ago, and played around with a mac for awhile, and thought, "Gee, this is it?". I think the first thing I'd want to do with it is find a way to make it look like XP. 
I think I got my "fix" when I was there. Now, I pretty much feel it's ho-hum.

I would be prepared to give OSX on the PC a try - not that this will ever happen, and assuming they didn't offer me a bunch of free stuff and then start charging a fortune for it later (.Mac, OS 10.2 anyone?). I have used Macs, and contrary to the hype, they're no more stable than a well build PC (by that I mean quality parts), and no easier to use. While OSX is a much prettier OS than Windows, it doesn't offer anything over windows in terms of useability.

Well, the ability to run Unix certainly is something that it offers over Windows! Having a true GUI with the complete freedom of FreeBSD underneath? I would love that in a Windows platform.
I have no desire to use OSX on a PC...what I would love to see is Microsoft go to FreeBSD and do the exact same thing, thereby making the Mac/PC cross-platform compatability issue one step closer to obsoletion.

OSX one of the muses of skin designers?
Ha! People that mimic OSes are no designers in my eyes. Design involves this thing called "innovation" and copying and innovation tend to bite one another.

I think apple should release a PC OSX. I expect it would do wonders for thier business. Everyone who wants a double win/oxs boot could have one and so on. The design is nice and the graphics are wonderful, and yes, I think it would probably be a lot easier to learn. I played with a new imnac in a shop for 20 mins or so and found my way around osx perfectly. And I had never had the chance to fiddle with OSX before. But to say which one is the better os... well, I'm not sure it can really be said. Some people can work with both and some with one or the other.

Actually, Mac OSX borrowed its dock from *nix, not vice versa...

I hate Xp style it`s something but not enought . They say (Microsoft) that Longhorn alias Blackcompb will be somethig new but it`s stil win95 with a new look .On the other side I live what Apple do with their Os y like it , the look, the feel and all the things but It`s a little to expensive and when you want to do an update you crash .I hope that maybe in 2500 
they will make an PCMac computer but until then a lot of time will be spend on this lazy win or linux

I'm happy that more and more programs are easily becoming avalible on mac's, but their is still the fine line that mac mac crashes and burns, and thats the major price difference. I mean top of the line Mac's, which are currently G4's are around $2000, depending upon options (DVD/RW, etc), while a Windows base will run around $800 for similar specs, depending upon if its factory made, or custom built of course.

Someone mentioned that OS X was too expensive for the masses... not true. Yes, OS X 10.2 is going to be a $129 upgrade for everyone who wants it, but that is not bad at all considering you still have to pay $100 for a Microsoft upgrade, and $200 for the system (XP) brand new. I don't predict that Apple will require this kind of payment for future upgrades, but if you have seen or used 10.2 then you will see why they are charging that amount. It is a huge boost from 10.1.X and if you put aside the version number people might be able to see that it IS worth it. As for a PC version of Apple's OS, well, there are rumors that Apple has been working with Intel processors rather than the PowerPC RISC processors they normally use. Keep watching because you never know what will happen. www.macosrumors.com

Intel processors does not necessarily mean i*86 processors. so don´t expect OSX for PCs.

He says his results shows that OSX is better?? I think it just shows that people want to try what they don't have. When I didn't have XP, I scoured the net for XP skins.
Are most skinnable programs aimed at PC's? If so, then my conclusion is equally as valid as yavanna's, don't you think?
